DIM SCENE
the GazettE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to DIM SCENE by the GazettE describe a scene of decay and despair. The singer reflects on the consequences of their own actions, which have led to the loss of their hopes and values. They are surrounded by disconnected relationships and a landscape that is crumbling away. The imagery of crows gathering and an infant's dream being silenced add to the feeling of despair.

The lyrics suggest that the singer is lost and unable to escape their pain. They describe the reality they see as a shell, perhaps suggesting that it is a facade or they cannot connect with it. The imagery of a moth falling with butterfly wings and love drowning behind suffering suggest a sense of hopelessness.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of sorrow and resignation, with the singer seemingly trapped in a world of their own making.

I've listened to it just once so far, my opinion will probably change after I listen to it more.
So here is my "review":
1. Count-10- Solid opener, builds intensity pretty well. They have better openers in my opinion, but this one fits well with overall sound (theme) of the album.
2. Blinding hope- Nice emotions, clean passages are nicely done. Electronics are done very well, but at some points I found those tones to be intrusive a bit. Maybe the most impactful track for me on the album.
3. Rollin'- Intro to this song is pretty good, feels familiar, drops into the softer passages feel good. Overall very forward driving track, kind of on the simpler side.
4. Nox- Beginning is familiar, I've heard something similar before. I must praise them for the use of the electronics and what sounds like violin (probably samples) in the background. Fun track overall.
5. Hold- Builds-up pretty well, guitar tones remind me of their Dogma sound. Vocal patterns in aggressive passages remind me of Ugly. On the shorter side, good when you need quick, heavier The Gazette fix.
6. Daku- Intro feels amazing with the electronics-guitar combo. Vocal passages feel familiar. Subtle vocals in the background together with the electronics feel great. Pretty emotional song overall.
7. The Pale- Like the use of effects on Ruki's vocals in this one. I'll praise the electronic and synth work once again.
8. Moment- Enjoyed this song much more than I thought I would. Great song to just lay down and relax to. Is it weird that it somehow reminds me of Oboreru Sakana by Mucc?
9. Barbarian- Nice song. The opening and the ending guitars remind me of the beginning guitar in Maximum the Hormone by Maximum the Hormone. I don't have much more to say about this one. Nothing I haven't heard from them before.
10. Frenzy- Pretty forward driving track. In some ways similar to Hold. Short but sweet.
11. Last song- Definitely a concert song. Great emotions. Synths and electronics feel good. It is no Ominous or DIm scene, but it doesn't have to be. This feels like a solid wrap up of the album.
My thoughts: While I don't dislike any of the songs, there are some weaker moments for me. Mainly some of the heavier songs don't feel that interesting. By the time I got to Barbarian, I have got nothing to say anymore. Guitar-wise this album reminds me of like an updated version on their Ninth sound. I must praise them for the use of electronics and those subtle background vocals on this album.
Some of the tracks wouldn't work that well without them. Ruki's vocals are great as always, but I've kind of heard all of what he does on this album before.
If you liked Ninth I think you will enjoy this one as well. It doesn't require too much of an emotional commitment. I can imagine listening to it while doing something else. I don't think this album will change mind of the people that are disappointed in how newer GazettE sounds. To be honest I feel like this could have been 5-6 track mini album.
I'll give this album score of 7,5/10. Solid album, but overall nothing new. I'll repeat what I wrote in the beginning, "My opinion will probably change after I've listened to it more".
My favourite tracks: Blinding hope, Daku, Moment, Nox, Hold, Last song
Probably forgot some things.
This is the first time I did any kind of review. It feels pretty awkward. Tell me what do you think about it.

Happy release day everyone! What are your thoughts on the new album, any favorites?

lxxlxxk

so i just finished listening to it (and it was too short ;;;) and tbh i didn't expect to like it this much at first listen!! kai absolutely went off in every song, and reita was also really there, which i loved. the chords present in a few songs also gave a really catchy factor! Rolling, Hold (my absolute favorite), 濁 and The Pale were the standout songs for me, and there wasn't really any song that i found more lacking/weak or something (except maybe for Moment which felt a bit,, meh after the two ones before)
i'm so excited to see the translations (even though yours might take a bit long if you sub the lives lmao, but i'll be waiting :D)! what was your opinion?

Kaya第2ちゃんねる

@lxxlxxk I very much agree! I was also surprised just how much I instantly loved the songs on this album. The drums are absolutely insane on HOLD, and it's actually also my favorite song on the album - I'd even say it stands above the rest of the songs. 濁 is a second favorite and ROLLIN' will be so much fun live (as will be BARBARIAN), Reita is so present in that one. I was actually also surprised by COUNT-10, it might just be me being excited, but right now I'm willing to say it's their best SE so far. Also, I really love the more experimental parts in THE PALE, just the chorus feeling a bit anticlimactic to me personally keeps it from being an instant favorite; it keeps growing on me though. And if I was to pick a song that fell a bit short, it would also be MOMENT for me. Overall I'm very happy with this album and especially with HOLD above all, it's amazing. I also just read the lyrics and I'm looking forward to translating these songs, even though like you said, it'll probably be ages until live performances are available.

this album is so much more solid than ninth, but i’ll have to say that i miss the experimental side, which probably explains why 濁 is my favorite! too bad we won’t have live performances of this song too soon :(

Andy xRRRx

I'm into the pale and daku a looot, also Barbarian and Nox are killing me. I want to attend a live so bad. This album is so good. So i'm happy haha

It's so rare these days to see people sound just as good live as they do in the studio.
