My Propeller
Arctic Monkeys Lyrics
If you can summon the strength, tow me
I can't hold down the urgency
You've got to make your descent slowly
And oil up those sticky keys
Coax me out my low
And have a spin of my propeller
It's a necessary evil
No cause for emergency
Borrowed the beak of a bald eagle
Oh, momentary synergy
Coax me out my low
Sink into tomorrow
Coax me out my low
And have a spin of my propeller
My propeller won't spin and I can't get it started on my own
When are you arriving?
My propeller won't spin and I can't get it started on my own
When are you arriving?
My propeller won't spin and I can't get it started on my own
When are you arriving?
My propeller

If you can summon the strength, tow me
I can't hold down the urgency
You've got to make your descent slowly
And oil up those sticky keys
Coax me out my low and have a spin of my propeller
It's a necessary evil
No cause for emergency
Borrowed the beak off a bald eagle
Oh, momentary synergy
Coax me out my low
Sink in to tomorrow
Coax me out my low and have a spin of my propeller
My propeller won't spin and I can't get it started on my own
When are you arriving?

I love this song because it can be interpreted in a lot of different ways and it seems like Alex doesn't go into detail about the meaning to keep it that way.
for a long time i assumed it was a song about getting a blow job. "make your descent slowly" is self explanatory "oil up those sticky keys" could be seen as lube up those hands "have a spin on my propeller" ....suck it. these could be seen as sex references. however, changing the perspective, i can also see this song being about drug dependency.
"coax me out my low" anyone who's had problems with drugs know the depressing feeling of being sober, then feeling alright once they've got their bit. "it's a necessary evil" you feel like you need drugs but you know they're harming you. "when are you arriving? coz my propeller won't spin and i can't get it started on my own" the 'propeller' could be his creativity or motivation, and until his fix arrives, he feels no creativity or motivation to do anything.
Once more, it could be about being in love with someone. "momentary synergy" could be referring to that moment you see the person you love, and it feels like you know they are the one, being in perfect synergy for that moment. "coax me out my low, sink into tomorrow, coax me out my low, and have a spin of my propeller" might be him wanting the person he loves to be around him to take away his depression and sink into tomorrow like nothing else matters. "it's a necessary evil" Love can make people crazy and do things they wouldn't usually do, sometimes more harmful things than good, but you need that love in your life, making it a necessary evil.
I don't personally believe the toy plane story. The rest of the album's songs have similar undertones (obsession, love, sex and drugs) and its very out of place to have just one song be about his toy plane's propeller not working as a child.

letra en español
Si puedes reunir la fuerza, remolcame
No puedo aguantar la urgencia
Tienes que hacer tu descenso lentamente.
Y engrasar esas llaves pegajosas.
Engánchame y dale un giro a mi hélice.
Es un mal necesario
No hay causa de emergencia.
Me prestó el pico de un águila calva
Oh, sinergia momentánea.
Engánrame a mi baja
Hundirse en mañana
Engánchame y dale un giro a mi hélice.
Mi hélice no gira y no puedo arrancar por mi cuenta
¿Cuando estás llegando?
Mi hélice no gira y no puedo arrancar por mi cuenta
¿Cuando estás llegando?
Mi hélice no gira y no puedo arrancar por mi cuenta
¿Cuando estás llegando?
Mi hélice

I've got a question:
I'm looking for more music with a sound similar to this track.
A really strong combination of alternative, psychedelic, hard rock with a dark edge.
However, the other Humbug songs aren't really my thing. Does somebody have suggestions?
By the way, I'm already a big fan of the first 3 or 4 STP albums, which also have the right sound.
Thank you very much in forward!

Does anyone else think the humbug era is very mystical and has a magical kind of feel? Love it hahaha

I've become a huge fan of Arctic Monkeys, but I'm questioning deeply why their fanbase is a bunch of damn hipsters. You either get the fans that hate other fans for liking "Do I wanna know" ( which is a great song, so like... are they wrong for liking it because its on the radio? And... can you honestly deny being a hipster if that's your reason? ) or you get the type that are like "This song is so underrated and underplayed." I see this on pretty much every song, even though this song has had 5.3 MILLION views.
Please stop turning good bands into cults. Just enjoy the music.

I've honestly been waiting for this answer. For me, as of late, I've begun to rediscover a bunch of new artists (including artic monkeys), but it's annoying to see people hating on folks just because of a more popular song, or an "under-rated" one.
people really need to learn how to be a fan, not a fanatic

This is probably the best comment I've ever seen related to Arctic Monkeys
