The Kooks Lyrics

I'm not saying it was your fault
Although you could have done more

Oh, you're so naïve, yet so

How could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart?
Oh, and your sweet and pretty face
In such an ugly way
Something so beautiful
Oh, that every time I look inside

I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
Well, she's still out to get me

And I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
She's still out to get me

I may say it was your fault
Because I know you could have done more

Oh, you're so naïve, yet so

How could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart?
Oh, and your sweet and pretty face
In such an ugly way something so beautiful
Oh, that every time I look inside

I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
Well, she's still out to get me

And I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
She's still out to get me

Ooh

So how could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart?

Oh, you're so naïve, yet so

It's such an ugly thing
For someone so beautiful
I'll die every time you're on his side

I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
Well, she's still out to get me

And I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
She's still out to get me

Just don't let me down
So just don't let me down
Hold on to your kite
Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to your kite
Just don't let me down, oh
Just don't let me down
Hold on to this kite
Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down

This song was released in March of 2006; I turned 16 in June of that year and this song was part of the soundtrack to that summer...

I met a girl, and fell in love (and out of love and back again which was a pattern that repeated itself too many times for me to mention and with the same woman for the best part of the following decade)

Hearing it now still brings back fond memories in a nostalgic way... happy, carefree times as teens... we didn’t know how lucky we were... but it also makes me sad for the same reason.

I don’t know that girl anymore- I hope she’s happy...

But I sure am thankful for songs like this one. The noughties were such a wonderful time for indie music. We were just so lucky.

I'm not saying it was your fault
Although you could have done more

Oh you're so naive yet so

How could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart?
Oh and your sweet and pretty face
In such an ugly way
Something so beautiful
That everytime I look inside

I know, she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

I know, she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

I may say it was your fault
Cause I know you could have done more

Oh you're so naive yet so

How could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart?
Oh and your sweet and pretty face
In such an ugly way
Something so beautiful
That everytime I look inside

I know, she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

I know, she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

So how could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart?

Oh you're so naive yet so

Such an ugly thing
Someone so beautiful
And everytime you're on his side

I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be be she's still out to get me

And I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be be she's still out to get me

Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to your kite
Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to your kite
Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to this kite
Just don't let me down

@Marina SF i heard people do robberies on the streets there often, kid gangs will just beg for money then if you don't give them anything you'll get robbed anyway and forced to withdraw your money at the atm and hand it over and then you'll be let free

Glad you're in the UK now look at the other comment I made

I miss good British Indie, seems like that genre is dead these days

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will check them out 😊

Though I like how people bother to try and suggest good new artists to help out........I must admit I still agree with the OP on this one. Alot of those suggestions aren't that great.........Catfish and the Bottlemen, Mumfords etc alright yeah they are ok bands...............but to think they are literally 'top tier guitar bands' of the past decade that headlined major fests etc.........that screams alarm bells to how bad the last decade has been and what talent is floating about (or not)..............you had many more (and much better) indie and alt bands all the way through the 70's, 80's, 90's and even 2000's (mainstream and underground).................the 2010's has been the bleakest decade for music for sure..................it was virtually a cultural dessert dominated by ultra commercial pop (minus the odd half decent breakthrough artists like 'Idles'....'Everything Everything' etc).........and even if you kept it 'underground'...........a lot of the so called modern alt music has merged in to the same weird synthy dance style that basically sounds like a subgenre of all the hyper commercial stuff. For the record.......I don't 'hate electronic music' either........some of the best music made has been electronic......with bands like Kraftwerk pioneering it all in the late 70's............then of course the 80's had endless decent electronic music (loads of different sub genres)......then you had all the acid house and rave scenes of the 90's (with trance etc).....loads of amazing stuff was done. I'm glad that artists still try to keep music alive and do what they do.......but we just seemed to run out of steam and new ideas in recent times.........for what its worth this convo has inspired me to get back on Spotify and start trawling for new artists again.............who knows.....a few gems might be found......you all might prove me wrong yet.
