Leave Before The Lights Come On
Arctic Monkeys Lyrics

Well, this is a good idea
He wouldn't do it if it wasn't
He wouldn't do it if it wasn't one
Well, my friend fancies you
Oh, what a way to begin it all
You said, "They're always exciting words to hear"
And they woke up together not quite realizing how
Awkwardly stretching and yawning
It's always hard in the morning

And I suppose that's the price you pay
Well, oh, it isn't what it was
She's thinking he looks different today
And now there's nothing left to guess now

They left before the lights came on
Because they didn't want to ruin what it was that was brewing
Before they absolutely had to
And how can you wake up with someone you don't love
And not feel slightly fazed by it?
Oh, he had a struggle
And they woke up together not quite realizing how

Awkwardly stretching and yawning
It's always hard in the morning

And I suppose that's the price you pay
Well, oh, it isn't what it was
She's thinking he looks different today
And now there's nothing left to guess now

Well, quick, let's leave before the lights come on
'Cause then you don't have to see
'Cause then you don't have to see what you've done
Well, quick, let's leave before the lights come on
'Cause then you don't have to see
'Cause then you don't have to see what you've done

I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come?
I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come?
I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come?
I'll walk you up

The best way for me to describe this, I fell in love with Arctic monkeys years ago, before they got famous. Being from sheffield myself and keeping up with the local music scene I saw big things for them, and then they did go big. They kept to their roots and the music they made kept on getting better and better, until AM.

I see AM as a different band to the Arctic Monkeys who I fell in love with, of course AM was a good album but now Alex has changed, the band have lost their roots and I have been left almost feeling betrayed by this. Alex's American twang to his voice, lack of youkshire etc really saddens me. I saw them at the shefield arena last year, towards the end of the show his sheffield accent came back and it was like he was returning to his rots, back to us. But it's all seemed to have faded now, he is too caught up on what he has become.

I don't know if Alex takes drugs, but he's not with it on stage, or what it seems off stage. If Alex and the band really don't take a hiatus from music, come back to sheffield, where they belong and then make a new album back with their roots, then I can't see them heading in a good direction.

It makes me sad to think that in a few years, Alex here could end up like Amy whinehouse, pure musical talent, a godsend. But makes the wrong decisions and ruins it all.

Jamie, nick, matt and Alex all need to just stop and think where it's all going, return to their roots because that what we all want.
Not AM,
We want the Arctic Monkeys from High Green Sheffield!

i love how this song is about a one night stand and the video is basically the same concept framed in a different way

Yeah, it's kinda about looking for the right stimulus in the wrong places. Pretty much a masterpiece.

Sincerely, this videoclip could've been from Only Ones Who Know if the man and the woman decided to spend more time together. Why not a few kisses in the afternoon? Empathy doesn't hurt. Ignorance does.

"How can you wake up with someone you don't love and not be slightly fazed by it" Give me the chills. Such a powerful line.

Most folk can't relate because they're (foolishly) always trying to add to their body count.
