River Song
Dennis Wilson Lyrics

Walkin' down by the river
Water running through my knees
(Ahhh)
River, oh river moves so free
(Ahhh)
Oh mighty river endlessly

Oo mighty river
I would love to be like you
Oo lonely river
Has not got the time to say

I was born into the city life
It's all that I've ever known
You know it's rough gettin' round this place
So crowded I can hardly breathe

You can only see about a block or two
In L. A. that's the truth
I'm lookin' for some country life
Some kickin' room no more city life
I want the river

Rollin' rollin' rollin' on river
(I got to get away I got to get away I got to get away)
Rollin' rollin' rollin' on river
(I got to get away I got to get away I got to get away)
Rollin' rollin' rollin' on river
(I got to get away I got to get away I got to get away)
Rollin' rollin' rollin' on river
(I got to get away I got to get away I got to get away)
Rollin' rollin' rollin' on

It breaks my heart to see the city
I wonder why it ain't pretty
Oh I want to cry, want to cry
Come on you've got to do it do it do it

You got to run away you got to run away
You got to do it do it do it
You got to run away
You got to run away

You got to do it do it do it
You got to run away
You got to run away

You got to do it do it do it
You got to run away
You got to run away

You got to do it do it do it
You got to run away
You got to run away

Dennis was truly the George Harrison of the group. Musically kept to the background behind Brian, Mike and Carl, as well as being his own person away from the group. But when given his own chance at a solo effort, created something rather beautiful and timeless. Would've loved to have heard more from him, what a waste.

What a solid tune. I only wish that "mighty river" section at 00:43 would repeat again just because I love it so much.

(5 years later comment) man, i totaly get it. love the way it drops into this bit from the bit before too; then i wish it could cruise on like this a lot longer.

Something hauntingly beautiful about Dennis Wilson.  I am a huge fan.

@Julie Anne Hi, Julie.  He was amazing, all right!  I wish he could've been around longer! He really was under-rated!

The underrated Wilson brother.

He had much more talent than they gave him credit for.

Honestly, I'm a Brian Wilson fan, but gotta love Dennis, too. Dennis has a beautiful voice to go with his beautiful music.

Oh God... this must be one of the most beautiful songs ever made.

Pacific Ocean Blue is a classic of cosmic music! Dennis Wilson's "River Song" is one of the greatest songs of the 1970s!

Derek Matthew Bedini

Hate to disagree with you all ...but then again, I am happy to say..this entire album is a masterpiece...its what everyone was wishing Brian was doing at this point, but instead Dennis was doing it.
Soulful and heartfelt written songs. I can go on FOREVER..but I'll restrain.
