Watched last night. It gave a good portrayal of 1129's life as a dairy cow. I felt her pain, sadness and confusion. I'll name her "Patience". The ending made me very sad. 💔 The farmers were as kind as they could be in this industry. I've seen brutal footage that I will never forget. This documentary was not graphic. I don't consume dairy anymore because of films like this.

I thought the dialogue in this film was very good. Plus the storyline was well structured and it had a decent sense of pacing. My one complaint about it really is that it wasn't an hour and a half longer, because many subplots could have been expanded on a bit more. Plus the acting of a few of the cows was a tad one dimensional, and as characters were sometimes a bit hard to discern from one another: on account of their physical similarity and similar manner of reading out their lines.

I have to admit, when I first saw that line in the trailer about a "study of confined femininity", I thought the trailer was an April fools joke... Sorry. I'm from a rural area, so to me, agriculture is a good thing. Yes there are a lot of misconceptions and anti-farming propaganda. It's probably crueler to keep all those humans penned up in a metropolitan urban environment... They should come out to the country more.

@Catsue57 I lived next to a small dairy farm in a small town in MN. I would go out and give the cows apples when they were in the pasture by our home. I named one of the cows Brownie. I loved her. Then one year she was gone never saw her again. I was too young to understand. I do remember the cows would moo and moo for long periods of time. I just thought they were communicating and happy. ☹

I admit I haven't yet seen the film but I'm willing to bet it only depicts standard practice in terms of animal welfare. I.e industry approved. We all have individual accountability to stop this madness and refrain from these unnecessary products. I urge you to watch the film. I will do the same.

The "food chain" is a real science. It won't change due to one movie.

As someone who comes from this world, it is good to see that people are putting thought into showing what agriculture is and not what it’s perceived to be. I urge people if they feel so strongly against animal products, for reasons related to animal welfare, to visit a local dairy 9 out of 10 times if it is a smaller dairy the dairy owner will take time out if their day to give you an accurate representation of their work. Though this is a movie about the life of a dairy cow from her perspective, it very much still reeks of persuasion although there is no dialog. I am not saying this movie is not partially true but it seems that there are a lot of strategically placed angles to persuade the viewer into believe this is a terrible industry. In the other hand I think there is nothing cuter than the bovine species 🥺 and they did a wonderful job of catching how beautiful these creatures are.

Most people who are against animal agriculture for ethical reasons aren't operating under some delusional notion of what the conditions on farms are like, large or small. Visiting a quaint local dairy farm would not change anybody's mind if they actually understand the inherently cruel nature of the industry. Well-meaning people like yourself who make their livelihood from it have simply become inured, through sheer habituation and cultural reinforcement.

By eliminating meat, milk, or non-organically grown fruits and vegetables, you take away relatively affordable quality food from poor people and you make it more expensive for everyone else. Eliminating fertilizers, pesticides, or other tools needed by farms, you force food prices higher, resulting in more starvation in the poorest of us. True Food Justice is when food is cheap and accessible to all, especially the poorer of us.

No. From that point of view, it's an anticlimactic disappointment. But if you like watching cows wander about or looking sad while going, "Moo", for 90 minutes, it will be some sort of experience. I'm not sure which sort, but it certainly is unique within the genre of films that feature 90 minutes of no voiceover or dialogue but just footage of mooing cows.
