Baba baba baba
Baba baba baba (coitado, coitado)
Baba baba baba
Baba baba baba
Baba baba baba (coitado)
Você não acreditou
Você nem me olhou
Vou deixar você me olhar
Baba baby, baby, baba, baba
Baby baba baba baba
Baby baba baba baba
Baby baba baba baba, baby
Vou deixar você me olhar
Só olhar, só olhar, baba
Baby, baba olha o que perdeu
Baba, a criança cresceu
Baba baby, baby, baba, baba
Baby, baba olha o que perdeu
Baba, a criança cresceu
Baba baby, baby, baba, baba
Baby baba baba
Baby baba baba
Baby baba baba, baby (coitado, coitado)
The lyrics to Kelly Key's song Baba are about a woman who was once rejected by a man because she was considered too young for him. Now that she has grown up, he suddenly wants to date her, but she is not interested because she views his feelings as insincere. The chorus of the song is repetitive and emphasizes that the man is baba (a Portuguese slang term for someone who is foolish or stupid). The woman is not interested in playing games with him and wants him to see what he has lost by ignoring her when she was younger.
The lyrics are a testament to the power dynamic that can exist in relationships and the importance of not overlooking someone because of their age or perceived level of maturity. The song has a confident and empowering tone, with the woman declaring that she is now “more herself” and has moved beyond the man’s inability to see her potential. Baba can also be interpreted as a warning to other potential suitors who might make the same mistake as the man in question.
