Winchester Cathedral
New Vaudeville Band Lyrics

Winchester Cathedral
You're bringing me down
You stood and you watched as
My baby left town

You could have done something
But you didn't try
You didn't do nothing
You let her walk by

Now everyone knows just how much I needed that gal
She wouldn't have gone far away
If only you'd started ringing your bell

Winchester Cathedral
You're bringing me down
You stood and you watched as
My baby left town

Saddened to hear of the death of Geoff Stephens aged 86 From Covid 19 - I Saw the New Vaudeville Band Live In Concert in 1968 they were great

I didn't know this, but apparently Geoff Stephens was contacted by Top of The Pops, who wanted to invite the New Vaudeville Band to perform on telly. The problem was that the band didn't actually exist, despite being credited on the record! Something of a panic ensued, and Stephens had to hurriedly assemble a band - any band - from scratch! I think he succeeded.

Geoff Stevens who wrote this died recently. I was surprised by the number of fantastic pop songs he had written

This was the theme to a children's program in the Twin Cities in the 1960s and this was my favorite childhood song!
