His passion for music began when he was only 12 upon hearing his mother enchanting voice and fascinating music the Beatles played. He then started taking classic guitar lesson, in addition to vocal coaching from vocal trainer. His fascination for the Beatles also led him to joining Beatlemania club, Bandung Beatles Community (BBC) and became the youngest member at that time. He even performed in numerous Tribute to The Beatles events and played live as a guest star at The Beatles-themed events held by radio stations in Bandung.
His interest in music does not stop only at The Beatles and popular music as he began expanding his passion into the realm of traditional music, particularly that of Sundanese; the ethnicity and the very spirit that runs dominantly in his blood. A new spiritual journey, then, began. After a long thinking and searching for a kecapi tutor, he finally decided to study Sundanese music and instruments and learned them exclusively from traditional musician and artist, Dida Frilyana.
Proven fruitful, Frilyana’s teaching has gotten Rayhan to take part in a number of cultural missions to Europe in early 2008 and the middle of 2009 organized by the Indonesia’s Department of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Belgium and the Netherlands. Performing kecapi-suling before international audiences in several events including Visit Indonesia 2008 and gala dinner with Belgian Ambassador for Indonesia and the Prime Minister of Belgium, Rayhan came to a realization on the importance of promoting Indonesian cultural identities.
In 2008, Rayhan enrolled to study English at Universitas Padjadjaran, and at the same time he also started to develop his musical projects with Cathuspatha (formerly known as Vickyvette, one of the finalists featured in a compilation album titled LA Lights Indiefest 2008 from a music competition with the same name), Slylab, Concrete Aluminum, and Distant Yearning Alert.
He believes in freedom and honesty in creating music that is proven in his solo musical works which are mainly based on his personal engagement when they were being created. Those works have been featured in 7 mini albums (EP) and 2 full albums (LP) released from 2011 until 2013. Media have described his music as follows: experimental, pop, alternative, krautrock, electronica, acoustic, spoken-word, ambient, psychedelic, classical guitar instrumental, dream-pop, ethnic, no-wave, and electrocoustic.
To support his musical career, Rayhan has built his own studio for recording, mixing, and mastering named Strangerdaydreaming Recording Chamber Studio. The studio has been used for his solo projects as well as musical projects of other bands which are mostly based in Bandung and Jakarta. He also has expanded Strangerdaydreaming as a recording label mainly for his solo materials under the name Strangerdaydreaming Records.
Rayhan is currently working in an aviation private consultant company in Jakarta. He also owns vegetable and ubi cilembu (sweet potato) farming business providing regular supplies for supermarkets in several regions in Indonesia.
