I always liked how this song started out just plain silly. You're thinking to yourself "This is ridiculous! What a farce! I'll be cleared in no time."

But the music gets scarier and darker just as you realize this is NOT a fair trial, and the walls are closing in on you. It's a really gut-wrenching feeling. It makes your heart sink. REALLY great design work.

I can’t stop imagining the Chancellor having someone conduct an orchestra during the trial just to annoy you.
Not that this orchestration is annoying by any means.
I absolutely love that mood swing at 0:44. It goes from the feel of this evil, cocky, Italian-esque theme, to finding you might be in serious trouble.
Probably because you ate that guy’s lunch.

You really managed to capture the different feelings of the trial: First, it's almost mocking as some of the accusations are fairly petty and silly. Then the tune transforms into more seriousness, when they are really sentencing Crono to spend time in jail. Very well done!

Let's see what was going on my first playthrough...
-I brought cat to the girl
-I ATE old man's lunch, not knowing what it is and Chrono claimed it taste like chicken...
-I talked to Marle before checking the pendent
-I didn't try to sell pendent of course
-I WALKED away from Marle when she bought candy. Just one step well, the rest is history.
-I didn't blame anything to Marle.
So overall, I'm not guilty, just didn't get full items.

Malcolm I'm extremely curious, are you familiar with Kirby Super Star? If so, are you also familiar with the final boss theme (Marx theme)? I know you'd pull off an INSANE orchestra remake of it. The likes of which have never been heard before xD Of course I also know you must have a HUGE list of remakes that you're currently working on however, which is just SO unfortunate :| In any case I've thoroughly enjoyed your FF and CT remakes thus far, and if you would even CONSIDER making an orchestra remake of that Marx's theme, I'd be thrilled. jesusisbac Thanks for the encouraging comment! You're right that I have a huge list of remakes that I'm working on, and my total list of "must do" remakes is well into the hundreds. I did the math recently and realized that it would take something like ten years to get through them all at my current rate, so I decided to put a lot more time into it so that I can get a decent sized collection within just a few years. While I don't see myself ever overtaking Blake Robinson in terms of either quantity or quality, I'm really happy to be compared to him. Actually, his work is what introduced me to music production software and motivated me to go from being a piano-only composer to a digital orchestrator. Anyway, as for Kirby, the only game in the series that I played was Kirby's Dream Land for game boy. It was a lot of fun, but I never played the other games for some reason. If I ever get around to playing the other games, I'll consider adding Kirby to the list if it has enough music that I'm interested in. Marx's theme seems like it would sound really good with higher quality instruments.

I mean off the top of my head there's Tales of Phantasia, which has some fantastic songs in the soundtrack (Stream of Time and Biting Cold are the front runners that come to mind). Then there's Seiken Densetsu 3 which also has a wonderful assortment of music that I can't even begin to talk about (Dragon's Hole is one of my favorites). The list goes on and ON for goodness sake XD and you probably have 10 remakes planned for CT, 15-20 for FFIV, another 10 for Zelda (the snes one anyways) and so on. jesusisbac Stream of Time from Tales of Phantasia is an absolute must, as are several tracks from Seiken Densetsu 3. What I'm trying to figure out now is whether it's better to focus on a small number games or whether I should branch out and cover a larger number of games. My priority right now is to finish my planned 32 tracks of Chrono Trigger and then really focus on the Final Fantasy series. I have a total of 84 remakes planned for the first six FF games alone, so it's enough to keep me busy for a while. Each remake takes about 15-20 hours, some shorter and some a lot longer, but this number is getting lower as I get more experience.

Malcolm Robinson Music Well honestly it's up to your preference of order. Technically speaking, you could have a broader focus on the tracks that are A. Popular and B. Sound amazing, in order to bring the crowd of people to this channel sooner (in theory I guess?). Cons with that is simply how unorganized and all over the place you'd be, when you could simply knock out 1 or 2 albums and move on to the next. 15-20 hours per remake sounds reasonable, but 84 planned remakes for FF alone is insane XD and UGH I can't wait for your Tales of Phantasia and Seiken Densetsu remakes, I know they're gonna sound sick @_@ but yeah, honestly seems like time is your only adversary at this point

This trial is indicative of the many reasons Chrono Trigger stood out from all the other RPGs of its day (and quite frankly even now). In your first playthrough, you wouldn't even think twice about picking up the shiny pendant first, eating that guy’s lunch, or not helping the girl find her cat. They're just sidequests and taking whatever you see is a staple of all RPGs since the beginning! Nothing bad will ever come of it...right?

Then this trial comes and uses all your actions against you. Stealing that man’s lunch is used against your character, that little girl could've vouched for you but she can't because you didn't do that good deed. Even being impatient with Marle picking out candy is used against you.

Like can you imagine going on trial in Earthbound and all the presents you looted being used against you?

Oh, thanks for the response! Well, my English is pretty bad, so I'll try to explain, ok? Well... If you listen the original version, the 4 first "dums" sound like "dum TAN tan dum", while in your version the "tans" are in the same level (lol). It sounds like "dum tan tan dum". In the original version, they make the first "TAN" stronger (or higher) by adding a "toing" behind it and playing the second "tan" in a slightly lower tone. Or it is just my ear... Anyway, thanks for the response and grats for the great job.

Thanks for the feedback! In the original, the instruments playing "tans" are at the same volume, but there are also two pizzicato notes ("toings"?) and a tambourine hit that make the first tan sound louder. I included all this in my version, but I think the reason it doesn't sound the same is that my staccato strings are a little loud and give the pizzicato less impact. You're right that lowering the volume of the second "tan" would solve this. My album version fixed a minor mixing issue with the staccato strings (among other things), but unfortunately, the issue you're referring to is the same in both versions.
