I Shall Be Released
クラムボン Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They say every distance is not near
So I remember every face of every man who put me here
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
They say every man need protection
They say that every man must fall
Yes I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere so high above this wall
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
Now younder standing there in this lonely crowd
A man who swears is not to blame
All day long I hear him aboutin¥ so loud
Just cryln¥ out of that he was framed
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
In "I Shall Be Released," クラムボン artistically narrates the emotional turmoil, pain, and hope of someone who is incarcerated. The first verse shows that the person believes that anything and anyone can be replaced, but they cannot shake off the memory of those who put them behind bars. They recognize that every distance is not near, which could reference the distance between freedom and imprisonment, and the emotional distance between themselves and the people who put them there. However, the hope of being released is never far from their mind, as they see their light shining from the west to the east. They hold onto the belief that they will be free someday, though they acknowledge the obstacles they face and the protection every man needs.
The second verse continues the theme of hope and sees the singer glimpse their reflection somewhere above the walls that are trapping them. They know they must fall, but they are determined to stay true to themselves and not let their situation define them. The final verse explores the pain of being alone in a crowd and the unfairness of being blamed for something they did not do. The singer hears another man crying out about being framed and recognizes their own struggle in the man's voice. However, the singer still holds onto the belief that any day now, they will be released.
