ゴールデンボンバー was formed sometime in 2004 by vocalist 鬼龍院 翔, and guitarist 喜矢武 豊. They held their first live in February of 2005, and in 2006 they signed with Zany Zap, a sub-label of euclid agency. In April of 2007, bassist 歌広場 淳 joined the band. Before 2009, they made use of three drummers. Their first support drummer was 鶏和酢 里紅, he was later replaced by their first official drummer, 血祭鉄兵, who was then replaced by 天空城 団吉. 天空城 団吉 left the band in April of 2009, and was replaced by their current drummer, 樽美酒 研二 that same month.
ゴールデンボンバー strives to make their live performances comedic, interactive, and entertaining. They achieve this by performing skits between songs, and using props throughout their shows. The band is also known for their parodies of famous visual kei bandmen and Japanese pop culture icons. An example of this would be "GOCKT", 鬼龍院 翔's portrayal of popular Japanese singer, GACKT. In 2009, ゴールデンボンバー released 剃り残した夏, a movie starring the four of them involved in a complicated love story. An accompanying soundtrack with music from the film was also released.

In the song 幸せな歌, ボーカル (vocalist) Kiryuin Sho tells us that, although he wants to sing a song of happiness, he doesn't really know what true happiness is. He reflects on his past, and questions if what he gave up was his own dreams or the person he loved. He decides that tonight, he wants to forget about that special someone, and hopes that his lingering feelings will disappear with the wind. He longs for the day when he can understand and share happiness with that person.
The next verse expresses a contrasting desire - Kiryuin wants to sing a song about sex, but he has never experienced it himself. He admits their relationship didn't work out, but he's glad they met each other, even though it makes him feel bitter. He confesses that he still wants that person, even if it's just nonsense. He suggests that it's better to love and lose than to suffer alone, and hopes to meet that person again someday to sing a happy song.
The song expresses a lot of sadness and longing for something that seems unattainable, which is a common theme in Golden Bomber's music.
