Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
The lyrics of レミオロメン's song 星取り paint a vivid picture of nostalgia and longing, as the singer reminisces about a past summer night filled with emotions and memories. The imagery of a dazzling light covering everything, symbolized by a handkerchief woven with clock hands, sets the scene for a bittersweet recollection of a summer landscape where the moon was as small as a palm, and dreams were weaved together with the sight of a beloved smile. The overwhelming brightness of the fireworks in the night sky reflects the unreachable desire and the tears that flow from the singer's eyes, hinting at unspoken feelings and unattainable courage.
The theme of desire and emotions continues in the second verse, where the singer navigates through the sea of desires, feeling adrift on a fragile boat. The longing for a love as tangible as a palm's worth is expressed, along with the yearning for a connection deep enough to spark life and set the clock's hands in motion. The mention of Venus glaring at the rising sun signifies a conflict within the singer's heart, teetering on the edge of fading away as tears keep streaming continuously, highlighting the struggle between holding on and letting go.
As the lyrics delve deeper into the memories of that unforgettable summer day and the festival night that can never be revisited, the singer contemplates the importance of protecting something valuable while acknowledging the inevitability of having to let go. The wistful tone conveys a sense of longing for the past, even as the autumn wind blows through a sky devoid of fireworks, symbolizing the passage of time and the arrival of a new season. The singer's tears continue to flow endlessly, underscoring the emotion and nostalgia that permeate the song's lyrics.
In conclusion, レミオロメン's "星取り" captures the essence of longing, nostalgia, and the complexity of emotions tied to past memories and unfulfilled desires. The lyrics take the listener on a journey through a summer night filled with vivid imagery and poignant reflections, highlighting the singer's yearning for connection, courage, and the willingness to confront inner turmoil. The mention of fireworks, the night sky, and the changing seasons serves as a backdrop to the singer's internal struggles and emotional revelations, creating a poignant narrative that resonates with anyone who has experienced the bittersweet ache of lost moments and unattainable dreams.
