Hiver
Lyrics

Overall Meaning

"Hiver" by Taeko Onuki is a beautiful and emotional song that captures the feeling of loneliness and longing during the cold winter season. In the first verse, Onuki describes the chilly morning streets where one can see their breath, and beyond the foggy glass, it's winter. Even though it's a day off, there's nobody to invite her to go out. She suggests going to a small flower market, Marche for a change of scenery. In the chorus, she personifies the snowflakes as "wind flowers" and describes how they dance in the wind before disappearing. These lines are metaphorically describing her emotions as she seeks comfort, only to find it fleeting.

The second verse continues to paint a stunning visual picture of the surroundings, where couples embrace each other, and Taeko holds a small bouquet of flowers she intends to give to her loved one, as she steps into their arms. The climax of the song comes in the last line of the verse where she says "I am your ballerina," evoking a sense of surrender to her lover. The lyrics are melancholic yet beautiful as she expresses how she wants to be close to her lover, using poetic imagery to paint the picture of an intensely emotive and striking winter tableau.
