From when she was little, Nishino learned English from eikaiwa schools, and went to America twice. She then was interested in various genres of music, including hip-hop, R&B and reggae. On the other hand, she also enjoyed traditional Japanese literature, and started singing Japanese folk songs. Her dream of becoming a singer started from junior high school. When she was 16 her mother secretly sent a demo tape of hers to the Miss Phoenix Audition
In 2007, while preparing to be a singer, she was also studying English literature at university. At the time she met Australian duo Nervo, who offered Nishino a song called "I Don't Wanna Know" for use in her music project. Nishino rewrote the song's lyrics into Japanese herself, and re-titled it I.
In December 2007 her official site opened, and from that time onwards *I* ~Merry Christmas ver.~ was available as a digital download from several Japanese sites, including mora.jp. Interestingly, the original version of the song "I Don't Wanna Know" was available as a digital download on the American iTunes from New Years' Day onwards. The physical version was released two months later, on the 20th of February.

Is this love?
Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Uh is this love?
Uh is this love?
Hi, it's me K-A-N-A
Tell me what's your name
Please call me K-A-N-A-Y-A-N, OK?
Uh is this love?
Uh is this love?
Hi, it's me miss "Love-aholic"
Tell me do you like it?
"080-123" call me please baby
Is this love?
Baby take me away
In these poignant lyrics from 西野カナ's song "Is this love?", the singer expresses a deep longing and determination in her love, not wanting to regret it. The repeated lines "この恋だけは後悔したくないの" emphasize this sentiment, highlighting the fear of missing out on a chance for love. The urgency and intensity of her feelings are conveyed through the phrase "止められないの my love," indicating that her emotions cannot be stopped or contained.
The lyrics also touch on the fleeting nature of time and the impermanence of moments, as the singer emphasizes the importance of cherishing the present. The lines "今逃したら もう会えなくなるから" allude to the fear of losing the opportunity to be with the person she loves. There is a sense of desperation in wanting to solidify the relationship before it fades into nothingness, encapsulated in the line "何もないまま終わってしまう前に."
The chorus questions the nature of this love, pondering whether it is indeed genuine. The repetition of "Uh is this love?" reflects the singer's confusion and disbelief at how suddenly and intensely these feelings have emerged. The contrast between the initial unfamiliarity between the two individuals and the deep connection they now share is highlighted in the line "さっきまでお互い知らなかったのに."
Through her playful interaction and curiosity, the singer seeks to deepen her connection with her beloved. The lyrics showcase a desire for understanding and intimacy, as evidenced by the lines "もっと君のこと知りたいから" and "もっと聞かせてよ ねぇ oh oh." The request for communication and engagement underscores the singer's yearning to unravel the mysteries of her lover's heart. The repeated insistence on not wanting to regret this love and the longing to be together, such as in the lines "今しかないの この瞬間が全て" and "今日はずっと一緒にいたいの," further emphasize the singer's earnest plea for a lasting bond.
