Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

You swindle the rich man, and then you steal more
Greed is your life-blood, and white collar crime
Your hands don't get dirty, no, you steal with your mind
But the days of your reign, are all over now
The fortress you built for yourself, has come crashing down
No limos, no yachts, no homes
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
Vultures pick at your bones
Welcome to main street, you forgot your champagne
All of your off-shore accounts, have gone down the drain
Your stocks are all worthless, your paper trail burns
Your riches have turned into rags, the tables have turned
An eye for an eye, justice is served
Vengeance is ever so sweet, when you get what you deserve
No, no, no, no!!
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
No limo's, no yachts, no homes
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
Vultures pick at your bones
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
Only life in your cell
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
No, you can't take it with you to hell
No shelter, (no shelter)
No limo's, no yachts, no homes
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
Vultures pick at your bones
There is no shelter, (no shelter)
Only life in your cell
No shelter, (no shelter)
No, you can't take it with you to hell
The lyrics to Accept's song "No Shelter" describe the downfall of a corrupt and greedy individual who has made a fortune at the expense of others. The opening lines criticize this person's actions, accusing them of stealing from the poor, swindling the rich, and making a living out of white collar crime. The song acknowledges that this person has been able to avoid getting their hands dirty, as they have stolen with their mind instead of with force or violence. However, the time has come for the tables to turn, and justice is served.
The chorus repeats the line "there is no shelter," emphasizing that the person who was once so powerful and wealthy now has nothing. They have lost their limos, yachts, and homes, and their very survival is being threatened by vultures who pick at their bones. The lyrics suggest that this was a long time coming, and that the individual had become too complacent in their wealth and power. Now that they have lost it all, they are forced to face the consequences of their actions, with no way to escape or hide from the truth.
The final lines of the song offer a warning to other individuals who may similarly seek to hoard wealth and power at the expense of their fellow man. The lyrics state that when you die, you cannot take your riches with you to hell. The song is a powerful warning against greed and corruption, and a message that justice will eventually be served.
