Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Hear the twilight callin', as the flames burst into the night
It's creeping in your bloodstream, like a Metal disease
Underneath the streetlights, everything is larger than life
Ya hear the roar, see it gleaming like the edge on a switch-blade knife
A worldwide eruption, underneath your skin
Worldwide corruption, slowly seeping in,
It's a pandemic
It's a metal disease, pandemic
Brain cell abduction, creeping in like sin, it's a pandemic,
'A metal disease, pandemic
Brain cell destruction, breeding metal from within,
Whaaaa!!!!
Give into the venom, circulating underneath the skin
Like mercury poison, liquid metal boils within
Spreading like a wildfire, burning up the earth
Caught in the crossfire, all around the world
There's no way to stop it now,
It's a pandemic
It's a metal disease, pandemic
Burnt in your hard drive, smokin' up the earth, like a Pandemic
A pandemic, it's a metal disease
Pandemic, wow, it's a metal disease
Pandemic, caught in the barbed wire, it's underneath the skin
It's a pandemic, it's a metal disease
Pandemic
It's creeping in your bloodstream
It's a pandemic, it's a metal disease
The song "Pandemic" by Accept describes the spread of a metaphorical metal disease that is infecting people on a global scale. The lyrics speak of the evening when fires start burning bright and the twilight beckons, but there is something insidious lurking beneath the surface. The metal disease is creeping in the bloodstream, slowly seeping in, and corrupting everything it touches. The lyrics describe it as brain cell destruction, breeding metal from within, and liquid metal that boils underneath the skin.
The song uses several metaphors to describe the pandemic, such as wildfires burning up the earth and barbed wire trapping people in. The lyrics suggest that there is no way to stop it now, and the pandemic is spreading across the world. It's a metal disease that has infected people's hard drives and is smoking up the earth.
The song's message may be interpreted as a warning about the dangers of technology and how it can consume our lives if we do not exercise control over it. The metal disease may also be a metaphor for a more general sense of hopelessness or despair that is felt in society. Overall, the song "Pandemic" is a powerful and visceral representation of the unease and uncertainty that can be felt during times of crisis.

Hoffmann is a criminally underrated rif master in the same vein as Tony Iommi, Paul Quinn and Glenn Tipton. Hoffmann's tone and Tornillo's vocals are a match made in metal heaven. Taking nothing away from Udo.
