Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Trail Of Tears
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Came one day to our shores
Years of deceit and injustice and greed
Led to the crimes and the wars
Hopelessly wronged, dragged from our homes
Placed into stockades
Loaded on wagons as cattle or sheep
Silently filled with this rage
And all through the nights, we sang and we cried
holding on dearly
What gives you the right to do this
Who are the savages now!
It's a trail of tears, keep home fires burning
We're on a trail of tears, to were dreams go to die
Suffering and dying, enduring the cold
Oppression without regret
Wantonly stealing our land and our gold
The Cherokee will not forget
And all through the nights, we sang and we cried
holding on dearly
Four thousand graves along the way
Who are the savages now!
It's a trail of tears, keep home fires burning
We're on a trail of tears, to were dreams go to die
It's a trail of tears, for our homes we are yearning
We're on a trail of tears, to were dreams go to die
The lyrics to "Trail Of Tears" by Accept describe the tragic history of the Cherokee people, who were forcibly removed from their homes and marched thousands of miles to Indian Territory in the late 1830s. The song speaks about the pale-faced intruders, the white settlers, who lied to the Native Americans, betrayed them, and stole their land and gold. The Cherokee people were hopelessly wronged, dragged from their homes, placed into stockades, and loaded onto wagons as if they were cattle or sheep. The lyrics express the rage and suffering that the Cherokee people felt and how they endured the cold, oppression, and unjust treatment without regret.
Throughout the song, the Cherokee people ask the white settlers who they are to take their land and their dignity away from them. The chorus "It's a trail of tears, keep home fires burning, we're on a trail of tears, to where dreams go to die" speaks about the sadness and despair that the Cherokee people felt while being forced to leave their homes and journey to a new land. The song speaks of the four thousand graves along the way that serve as a testament to the suffering that the Cherokee people have endured.
