Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

From The Ashes We Rise
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Blackin' out the day
Hell and high water
Come to take my world away
I can hear the wind blow
I can hear the screams and cries
Slamming doors, running for cover
Now everything we've worked for
It's gone in a moments glance
I need something to believe
I need a second change
With injured souls and wounded hands
We'll carry on, we'll struggle, we'll rebuild the land
We've been knocked down we'll get up
From the ashes we rise
We've been kicked around sure enough
We will survive
We've been shot down we'll get up
From the ashes we rise
Life is so hard so just get tough
We will survive
I can see the ruins
Of life that used to be
Everything has been shot to Hell
In this harsh reality
Devastation all around us
Blood is all I see
But with strength, believe and our fellow men
We'll meet our destiny
With injured souls
and wounded hands, the singer of the song describes a storm that is coming to take their world away. The storm may symbolize a recurring hardship in life that has come to destroy everything the singer has worked for. The lyrics create a sense of chaos and destruction with the winds blowing, screams and cries in the air, and slamming doors. It seems as though everything is falling apart, and the singer is left feeling vulnerable and helpless. However, in the midst of all this, the singer maintains hope for a second chance and something to believe in.
Despite being knocked down, kicked around, and shot down, the singer expresses resilience and the ability to rise up from the ashes of the destruction. The lyrics illustrate the perseverance of the human spirit and the refusal to give up and succumb to defeat. The imagery of the ruined life and devastation surrounding them is a vivid portrayal of the aftermath of a great disaster. Injured souls and wounded hands are powerful and moving metaphors for those who have been devastated by life's challenges. The lyrics suggest that rebuilding is a shared effort, and the human race can come together to help one another through difficult times.
Overall, the song is about rising above adversity, withstanding unexpected tribulations and finding hope in the darkest of times. It is a message of survival and resilience, a tribute to the unbreakable determination of the human spirit.
