Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.

A volte l’ho tentato, credi
The lyrics of Adriano Celentano's song "Qua La Mano" are filled with introspection and self-realization. The song is a reflection on the singer's restless nature and the impact that someone special has on his life. The opening lines express the singer's acknowledgment that he constantly gets into trouble and is not someone who can stay still. He also mentions that the person who created him, presumably a higher power or a metaphorical creator, would have known that without this special person in his life, he would be unhappy and desolate.
The chorus conveys a mix of emotions and conflicting desires. The singer contemplates whether or not to make changes in his life, encouraged by the presence of this special person. He acknowledges their strength and admits that he has attempted, without success, to resist the inevitable changes this person brings. The mention of listening to "a rock scatenato" (wild rock) while this person was created suggests a playful manner in which they were introduced to his life.
As the song progresses, the singer speaks directly to the creator, expressing forgiveness and stating that he will speak up for them. He argues that his restless nature should not be considered a sin, as it was something that was predetermined and calculated by the creator. He recognizes that he has caused trouble, but also emphasizes that he was not born to stay still and that his inclination to move and change is an inherent part of his character.
Overall, "Qua La Mano" is a song that delves into self-awareness, acceptance of one's nature, and the impact of someone special on an individual's life. It explores themes of restlessness, personal growth, and the acknowledgment of the interconnectedness between individuals and their creators or higher powers.

Che guaio ho combinato, certo
What trouble have I gotten myself into, certainly
Per star fermo non son nato
I wasn't born to stand still
E tu che m’hai creato, lo so
And you who created me, I know
Sarei nero e avvilito e poi più c’è lei
I would be dark and dejected, and then there's her
(Muoviti un po’) forse lo farò
(Move a bit) maybe I will
(How strong you are) when she's here
(Muoviti un po’) sì, lo farò
(Move a bit) yes, I will
(Mi sembri un re) che guaio è!
(You seem like a king) what trouble is this!
A volte l’ho tentato, credi
At times I've tried, believe me
But with no success and the day I was born
Son certo che sarà stato
I'm certain it had to be
Mentre tu ascoltavi un rock scatenato
While you were listening to wild rock music
I've sometimes tried the rock of creation
(Muoviti un po’) forse lo farò
(Move a bit) maybe I will
(How strong you are) when she's here
(Muoviti un po’) sì, lo farò
(Move a bit) yes, I will
(Mi sembri un re) che guaio è!
(You seem like a king) what trouble is this!
Se mi hai capito ho perdonato
If you understood me, I have forgiven
Qua la mano io parlerò per te
Here's my hand, I will speak for you
Non credo sia peccato, certo
I don't believe it's a sin, certainly
I am too disorganized, but you who created me
Sicuro, l’avevi calcolato
Surely, you had calculated it
Che guaio ho combinato
What trouble have I gotten myself into
I know, I wasn't born to stand still
Non son nato oh… oh… oh… (Che forte sei)
I wasn't born, oh... oh... oh... (How strong you are)
When she's here (Move a bit)
Che forte sei (Muoviti un po’)
How strong you are (Move a bit)
Se qui c’è lei (Mi sembri un re)
If she's here (You seem like a king)
Che guaio è!
What trouble is this!
