The oeuvr… Read Full Bio ↴Progressive rock band formed in Budapest, Hungary in 1986.
The oeuvre of After Crying stands unparalleled in Hungarian music palette, and is also rare in international comparison.
The aim of this creative community has ever been to compose contemporary, up-to-date classical music that is possible to understand for many people – since it uses elements of today’s everyday musical idiom; and at the same time is able to convey deep meaning at a high artistic level, dealing with serious issues of our time.
A kind of "up-to-date classical music" that addresses both its own contemporaries and eternity at the same time. On the stage, their regular instrumentarium ranges from classic-acoustic instruments (cello, trumpet, piano, flute) to the standard setup of a modern rock band. From time to time they play shows with a chamber or symphony orchestra. On their studio-albums countless variations of classical and modern compositional methods and instrumentation appear, from acoustic chamber lineup to 21st century symphonic and electronic sounds.
All these are mounted in an organic dramaturgy, where the pieces ranging from song-format to long instrumental compositions all find their appropriate content. While heavily influenced by Emerson, Lake and Palmer or King Crimson, they added a number of unique elements to their sound. Keyboard player Vedres Csaba was the primary composer during his tenure with the band, though others took up the slack without a significant change in style. After leaving, Csaba formed Townscream.

Stonehenge
After Crying Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The opening line of the song "Stonehenge" by After Crying is "az idő kőbe álmodott csontváza," which translates to "the time dreamed up the skeleton of stone." This vivid and poetic imagery can be interpreted to convey the idea that time itself has given birth to the enduring structure of Stonehenge. As time passes, it slowly shapes and sculpts the world, leaving behind remnants of its passage. In this context, Stonehenge is seen as a physical representation of the passage of time, a monument that stands as a testament to the enduring nature of the past.
The use of the word "álmodott" (dreamed up) adds another layer of meaning to the lyric. It suggests that the creation of Stonehenge is not merely a result of natural processes or human ingenuity, but something more ethereal and fantastical. It implies that the concept of Stonehenge emerged from the dreams and visions of the collective human consciousness, inspired by the passage of time and the mysteries it holds. This interpretation lends a mystical and mythical quality to the song, elevating Stonehenge to the realm of the transcendental.
Furthermore, the phrase "csontváza" (skeleton) emphasizes the enduring nature of Stonehenge. Like a skeleton, Stonehenge stands as a framework that has withstood the test of time, its stone columns and lintels forming a solid and resilient structure. The use of the word "csontváza" implies that Stonehenge is more than a mere collection of stones; it is a living entity, a symbolic skeleton that gives shape and structure to time itself.
Overall, the line "az idő kőbe álmodott csontváza" in After Crying's "Stonehenge" embodies the concept of time as a shaping force. It suggests that Stonehenge is not just a result of human construction but a product of the dreams and visions inspired by time's passage. The image of a skeleton in stone symbolizes the enduring nature of the monument, while the use of the word "álmodott" adds a mystical element to its creation. Through these lyrics, the band captures the essence of Stonehenge as a timeless and enigmatic symbol of human fascination with the mysteries of time.
