For Me and My Gal
Al Jolson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The bells are ringing for me and my gal.
The birds are singing for me and my gal.
Ev'rybody's been knowing to a wedding they're going.
And for weeks they've been sewing every Suzie and Sal.
They're congregating for me and my gal.
The parson's waiting for me and my gal.
And sometime I'm gonna build a little home for two for three or four or more
In love land, for me and my gal.

The parson is waiting for them, and the singer suggests that they will soon build a little home for their growing family in love land.

Even lip synching this man is still the greatest.

madamerotten

It is so unfortunate that he would die just 2years later. He was amazing until the end.

Mark Doherty Music

Jolson was the greatest entertainer ever in any century; along with Sammy Davies Jnr

Thank you so much for sharing, it's such a rarity to see Jolson in person.

REST IN PEACE AL JOLSON.

Though recorded in the late '40s, this snippet gives you an idea of what Jolie would have looked like in 1950s television. He would've been a huge hit. I also think he would've been great, at least in the musical numbers, if he had played himself in "Jolson Sings Again." His acting quality, though, was uneven, and he didn't have Larry Parks's youthful good looks, so the decision to use Parks in the 1949 film was probably correct.

The best, ever, and ever to be.

Much like Fred Astaire; high energy and he gave all he had in his singing and roles.

Tyler Blevins

He's not lip syncing, Al Jolson had to be able to project his voice to the backs of a theater before they had voice magnification technology. He seldom needed a microphone at all.
