Souchon signed his first contract in 1971, but had no success until he began to collaborate with composer/arranger Laurent Voulzy ; they would write together, but each released albums under his own name. Souchon's first hit was "J'ai 10 ans" (1974), from the album of the same name. Souchon's biggest hit was probably "Foule Sentimentale" from 1995's C'est Deja ca. His recent album is from 2005, called La Vie Theodore which features his song "Et si en plus, y'a personne" [What if, even more, there is no one], a song condemning religious intolerance.
He wrote the theme for François Truffaut's 1979 film Love on the Run (L'amour en fuite).
Le Fil

Pour chanter, "Le fil enchanté"
Qui, malgré nos airs fâchés
Dit, "Tâchez de vivre attaché"
Les cœurs des cœurs approchés
Accrochés par un fil caché
Si le monde est démanché
Le joli fil, entre nos cœurs, passé
Oh, le fil
Le fil de nos sentiments enlacés
Oh, le fil nous lie, nous relie
Sur la Terre, tout est gâché
Empêché, presque arraché
Alors faut s'amouracher
The lyrics of Alain Souchon's song Le Fil express the importance of staying connected to others despite the challenges of life. The song speaks of a magical thread that links people's hearts, and encourages listeners to cherish and nurture these connections, even when they face difficult times or encounter disagreements. Souchon reminds us that this thread is fragile, but that we should strive to keep it strong and unbroken, and that it is through love and attachment that we can achieve this.
The first verse paints a picture of a detached melody, singing about the enchanted thread that ties us all together. It acknowledges that disagreements and conflicts can arise, but stresses the importance of staying connected by this thread. The chorus speaks of the beauty of this thread, how it ties our hearts together and provides a tender and reliable link between us. The second verse acknowledges that the world can be trying and that we may be tempted to give up and disconnect ourselves. However, Souchon urges us not to let this happen, reminding us that even politicians who may be drunk on power or feuding can still find common ground and work together for the greater good.
Overall, the song Le Fil speaks to the universal human desire for connection and the vital importance of staying attached to others, even in difficult times. It is a beautiful and timeless song that continues to resonate with listeners of all ages.
