Born Alfredo Sánchez Luna in Caracas, Venezuela, Sadel was affectionately called "The Favorite Tenor of Venezuela". He adopted his stage name by combining the last syllable of his surname with the last syllable of the surname of his favorite idol, tango singer Carlos Gardel. According to musician Aldemaro Romero, Sadel became Venezuela's heart-throb due to his huge popularity with the feminine audience. Being in the peak of his popularity he was shown to the doors of Hollywood, but convinced of his conditions for the bel canto, he went to Europe to cultivate his spirit through the serious music, studying in important conservatories, to devote himself to the opera and zarzuela genres.

The lyrics of Alfredo Sadel’s song Tu No Comprendes are a lament of unrequited love. The singer conveys his deep and all-consuming love for someone who does not necessarily feel the same way. Anoche,junto a mi esposa,nos deleitamos escuchando parte de la discografía de Alfredo Sadel.Soy de Costa Rica,tengo 73 años.De joven canté muchos temas de él,ya que fuí cantante.Por supuesto que fiel admirador de su preciosa voz.Lo más curioso,es que años después de haber interpretado muchas de sus canciones y ya retirado,me dí cuenta que su nombre ALFREDO SÁNCHEZ LUNA,era igual al mio,Alfredo Sánchez Rodríguez.Siempre lo recordaré.Sin conocernos,fué mi maestro.

Sin duda, Alfredo Sadel, es el más grande cantante de música popular de habla hispana. Una voz insuperable; un estilo único. Ha sido difícil saber de algún otro cantante que le haya superado en calidad, matiz y tesitura de voz. Murió relativamente joven, cuando aún podía esperarse mucho de él.
