Dysphoria
Alien Faktor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sweet discipline of denial
Intimate with nothing
Soft illusions of love
Satisfied with nothing
Each and every soul
Contains the same capacity
Empty inside
Who did this to me?

Lives so small
Cold kiss of loneliness
They break my heart
Because they exist
Sick discipline of denial
Intimate with no one
Sick illusions of love
Satisfied with no one

And the planet continues to spin
Like it did when I was a child
And the planet continues to spin

Like it will after I die
And the planet continues to spin

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Alien Faktor's "Dysphoria" speak of the paradoxical nature of human existence. The first stanza starts with the words "Sweet discipline of denial" which alludes to the idea that a sense of control or discipline over one's desires could lead to a sense of sweetness or fulfillment. However, the lyrics also note that this discipline leads to an intimate relationship with nothing, which is followed by the soft illusions of love that are satisfied with nothing. The last line, "Who did this to me?" suggests a sense of confusion or lack of agency in regards to the singer's state of being.

The second stanza continues the theme, but with a more bitter tone. The "cold kiss of loneliness" emphasizes the pain that comes with feeling isolated and unconnected to others. The lyrics also allude to the fact that the existence of others, even those who break the singer's heart, is a necessary part of life. The "sick illusions of love" parallel the same idea in the first stanza, that love and connection are illusory or unattainable. Similarly, the "sick discipline of denial" conveys the negative aspect of discipline and control of one's desires.

The last lines of the song, "And the planet continues to spin/Like it did when I was a child/Like it will after I die" are a reflection on the impermanence of life and the universe. Despite the confusion, pain, and isolation that the singer is feeling, the planet will continue to exist and move on. This sense of time and perspective is a reminder that while the individual experience is fleeting, the world will continue to exist beyond it.

I applaud the effort to address this topic. However, as a 57-yrs. old transgendered female identified personality - Transitioning since 1988. I take issue with Danielle Caputi speaking broadly about a very dynamic and personal phenomenon. Of which - Speaking from the "I" position is (I believe) required.

A woman is clearly defined biologically. Their space needs to be defended and respected. Same applies to being TG. "I" believe we must embrace being who we are and not annex women's rights and spaces as men have done since time immemorial. Being a female does not simultaneously denote a woman.
There word dysphoria is key. What "I" think "I" see and feel is not always real.
Advocating HRT for anyone under 21-yrs old for dysphoria is reckless. Hormone replacement therapy is a powerful undertaking in much the same way taking ayahuasca is. In that it is about preparedness. The arcane medical standard protocol is (I believe) loose and arbitrary. Fueled blindly by a hyper liberal cultural and political movement. Many are being (I believe) dangerously and falsely empowered to believe they have access to things they may not understand or are prepared for. This is malpractice. Many transvestites now claim they belong to the TG community. This helps to define the mass-mania of our culture.

The journey for me has become a powerful spiritual revelation. As this "New thinking Allowed" community expresses on a variety parapsychology topics. Looking inward transcending the flesh and material world. Is where "I" have excelled understanding the defining element is (for me) consciousness. I am here as myself and don't require anyone to know or understand me. I don't need to take from or hide in others personal space/identities as validation.

My concern is growing stronger everyday - as I see how these issues inflame cultural and political momentum expressing hate and fear - of which "I" feel are real and must be validated as a learning curve for understanding and tolerance regarding both forces. Validate the fear those have regarding bathrooms. Respect their spaces as we want them to respect ours. We traditionally have M & F bathrooms, whats so difficult about having gender neutral BR's. But don't impose upon those who are outside the understanding of gender dysphoria to be burdened ether. I believe, it is unkind and traumatizing to do otherwise. I must be compassionate before I lobby for compassion and so on.
Polarizing are ourselves as this community has (I believe) makes us open targets and undoes a lot of good work and makes many feel unsafe and unwelcome most especially non-gender dysphoria folks.

In Conclusion: Being transgendered (for me) is a powerful opportunity for higher learning on an esoteric level. Filled with many toils and snares. With equal opportunities built-in to crash and burn or become enlightened. It's much about confinement and restriction not so much about total freedom and access. Pinocchio is a powerful metaphor archetype to cross-reference (I believe).

Well, anyone who regularly watches this channel (as I do) understands the danger of old religious dogmas. But what your statement does not cover is today's cult-ish dogmas that have taken the old dogmas' place.

"Wait until you are an adult to make life altering decisions" Very responsible sentiment and sums up the entire video.

Yea because in that time if most rational people would change their mind

What many do not realize is that "transitioning" is much closer to being a one-way street than a two way conversion. It is because in mammals, all fetuses start out, after being sexless, being female. Maleness is added later.

Since the female body is sort of "waiting" to get testosterone and develop male characteristics, once this happens there is no drug to reverse the changes. They can be muted, a little, but only the 'men' with next to no testosterone in their blood can actually develop as a woman with added estradiol, so many transwomen try to hasten the transformation by getting castrated; others seek castration for aesthetic reasons.

So the older the MtF is, the more stubborn the physical transition is, following the huge hit of masculinization in the teens.

Jeffrey and Danny, I truly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this discourse, because I am very new to it and this is probably the first one that I’ve heard that was respectful, unemotional, and reasonable. Appreciate your response to the issue of suicide in the community. I was eagerly awaiting a response to Jeffrey’s question pertaining to the issue of violence, whether outside of the community, or within the community. In the discussions that I have attempted to be a part of there appears to be no place or very little place For any disagreement with the mainline talking points, and the discussions have broken down to accusations, broad-brushing, and outright becoming mean spirited. This has been rather disheartening for one who is on the outside of the community, seeking to understand and empathize. Thank you for the dialogue. 57:55

Good guest. She starts out very cautiously but goes into the more verboten topics in the second half. Very surprising topic for this show.

Thank you for this Interview. This is such an important conversation, especially in the time we live in. Although I live in Canada, I see what is going on in the states and it saddens me. We are affected too, but not by the same degree. As a Non-binary trans person who has invisible disabilities and spiritual/ ET experiences, I can relate and feel that what is spoken about is so important. as we do have the inter fighting between communities. Myself have experienced discrimination from the trans-sexual community and as a social worker/ councelor have supported trans-sexual who have experienced discrimination from the trans community. And also from spiritual to the trans and vise versa. So many conversations to be had. And I have also experienced the call-out and shutting down of conversations. In order to create meaningful change, those conversations need to happen. Thank you Dani for the work and sharing your story....so important!!

Thomas Ryan

Great conversation. I found this to be very illuminating. Thank you very much.

Kathy Kapsner

Many thanks to you both for such a balanced conversation on this topic.
