Cuando se encontraba cursando la secundaria decidió dedicarse a la música y su oportunidad llegó al responder a una convocatoria de la Escuela de Instructores de Arte, institución donde obtuvo una beca.

En sus composiciones, Amaury Gutiérrez pone énfasis especial en el aspecto vocal, no sólo por su pasado académico, sino por el particular sentimiento que le imprime a sus interpretaciones. Sus influencias como compositor y cantante son múltiples y provienen de fuentes tan diversas como; Pablo Milanés, Djavanm Caetano Veloso, Rubén Blades, Andy Montañez, Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, e incluso Paul McCartney.

Amaury Gutiérrez radica en Miami. A lo largo de su carrera ha producido 10 discos, con canciones originales que han sido interpretadas por múltiples artistas tales como Luis Fonsi, David Bisbal y Francisco Céspedes, entre otros. Asimismo, ha tenido temas que se han vuelto clásicos entre el público latinoamericano.

En el proceso creativo de la composición, Amaury confiesa que posee más facilidad para componer la música primero y después desarrollar el texto, teniendo como instrumento principal, si inseparable compañera: la guitarra.
Amaury Gutiérrez define su estilo como “Pop Cubano”, una mezcla de diversos géneros musicales que incluyen la antigua y la nueva Trova, algunos giros de música contemporánea y el sentimiento autoral de la época dorada del bolero, e incluso, de la música y la lírica mexicana.

Su primer álbum Amaury Gutiérrez (1999) fue nominado al premio Grammy Latino y vendió más de 600 mil copias. Él recibió el reconocimiento como “Artista de Brecha del Año” del Premio Onda en España en 2000.

La más reciente produccion de Amaury Gutiérrez, se titula Sesiones Intimas, un interesante material audiovisual que permite apreciar el talento de este compositor y la calidad de grabación. El disco salió a la venta el 30 de noviembre de 2010. Se trata de un material en vivo, integrado por 14 de sus temas, acompañado con músicos grabados en un estudio. Además, cuenta con interesantes colaboraciones de artistas como Luis Fonsi (Puerto Rico), David Bisbal (España), Merche (España), Antonio Orozco (España) y Marina de la Riva (Brasil).
