The original group first met while rehearsing and performing at different opera venues globally. The band originates in the United Kingdom and was formed in 2002. The original five members included Tsakane and David, but were also Nick Garrett (bass-baritone), Geoff Sewell (tenor), and Jo Appleby (soprano). Nick left the band in 2005 shortly after the release of their album Defined for unexplained reasons. Geoff left in February 2006 right after his daughter was diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and was replaced with Bruno. Jo Appleby was replaced by Lucy when she left in late 2006 to pursue a solo career.
Amici was then signed with Arista Records and came out with their first album in 2004, The Opera Band. The album quickly reached #74 in the Billboard 200 album charts and top 50 of the ARIA Australian album charts. It reached #2 on the Billboard Classical Crossover and Heatseeker charts, #1 on the ARIA Australian Classical album chart, and it also became top 5 on the UK Classical charts. In addition, it received a nomination for 'Album of the Year' at the Classical Brit Awards in 2004, where they also performed.
The latest album from Amici is Defined and was released in 2005. This album has reached top 5 of the Australian album charts.

Song to the Moon
Amici forever Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Mesiku na nebi hlubokem
Svetlo tvé daleko vidi,
Po svete bloudis sirokém,
Divas se v pribytky lidi.
Mesicku, postuj chvili
Rekni mu, stribmy mesicku,
Me ze jej objima rame,
Aby si alespon chvilicku
Vzpomenul ve sneni na mne
Zasvet mu do daleka
Rekni mu, rekni m kdo tu nan ceka!
mneli duse lidska sni
At'se tou vzpominkou vzbudi!
Mesicku, nezhasni, nezhasni!
The lyrics to "Song to the Moon" by Amici forever are from Antonín Dvorák's opera Rusalka. The song is sung by the lead character Rusalka, a water nymph, as she pleads with the moon to help her reach her beloved prince who has abandoned her. She addresses the moon as her only witness and confidant, saying that she sees its light from afar while wandering through the wide world, watching the habits of humans. She implores the moon to wait for a moment and ask her beloved prince about her, telling him that she embraces him in his dreams and asking the moon to shine into the distance and tell him that someone is waiting for him.
The song is deeply emotional and beautifully expressive, conveying Rusalka's longing and despair through vivid imagery and heartfelt phrases. The moon, symbolizing distant hopes and dreams, becomes a metaphor for the unattainable love that Rusalka yearns for, highlighting the opera's theme of unfulfilled desire and the human longing for connection.

Moon in the deep sky
Svetlo tvé daleko vidi
Your light can be seen far away
Po svete bloudis sirokém
You wander through the wide world
Divas se v pribytky lidi
You look into people's homes
Mesicku, postuj chvili
Moon, stand still for a moment
Reckni mi, kde je muj mily
Tell me, where is my love
Rekni mu, stribmy mesicku
Tell him, silver moon
Me ze jej objima rame
That my arms are embracing him
Aby si alespon chvilicku
So that at least for a moment
Vzpomenul ve sneni na mne
He remembers me in his dreams
Zasvet mu do daleka
Shine into the distance for him
Rekni mu, rekni m kdo tu nan ceka!
Tell him, tell him who is waiting here for him!
mneli duse lidska sni
If human souls dream
At'se tou vzpominkou vzbudi!
Let that memory wake him up!
Mesicku, nezhasni, nezhasni!
Moon, do not disappear, do not disappear!
