El Cielo Estaba Dorado
Antonio Orozco Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
que pueda ser verdad,
algo grande se me escapa
no acierto a comprender,
como todo sigue igual.
Cinco días de inconsciencia
son ganas de vivir,
sin poderse mover,
El tendría que ceder.
(Estribillo)
El cielo estaba dorado
con esquelas de humo,
que decían tu nombre
y angelitos surcaban,
en tu nombre divino.
En el aire se denota
la ausencia del que fue,
un camino bien marcado
imborrable al parecer,
buen amigo del saber.
Que te marches es un sino
del destino al parecer,
eso dicen los que vieron
el cielo oscurecer,
yo de menos te echaré.
(Estribillo)
The lyrics of Antonio Orozco's El Cielo Estaba Dorado convey a sense of confusion and incomprehension in the face of a great loss. The singer is unable to grasp the reality of the situation, as if something significant is slipping away from him. Despite the passage of time, everything still feels the same. The lyric "Cinco días de inconsciencia son ganas de vivir" suggests that the singer is struggling with a life-threatening situation, where being unconscious for five days is an indication of a strong will to live. However, the pain of not being able to move is described as "torture." Throughout the lyrics, the singer laments the inevitable departure of a beloved friend and makes references to the presence of this friend in the afterlife. The lyric "El cielo estaba dorado con esquelas de humo" paints a vivid picture of a sky filled with smoke and angelic figures who seem to be in reverence of the person who has passed on.
The hesitation and mental fog described in the first half of the song seems to give way to a sense of sadness, nostalgia, and longing in the second half. The singer regrets not asking important questions and not noticing the affection and care that the departing friend displayed. The phrase "todas las caricias que yo no pude ver" beautifully articulates the longing for a connection that the singer never fully realized. The final repetition of the refrain brings the song to a poignant end, with the image of the sky suffused with a golden light, emblematic of the warmth and light that the departed friend brought into the singer's life.
