Neeyat-E-Shauq
Asha Bhosle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Niyate shauk bhar naa jaye kahee Too bhee dil se utar naa jaye kahee
Aaj dekha hai tujhko der ke bad Aaj kaa din gujar naa jaye kahee
Naa mila kar udas logo se Husn teraa bikhar naa jaye kahee
Aaraju hai ke too yaha aaye Aur phir umrr bhar naa jaye kahee
Aao kuchh der ro hee le nasir Phir yeh dariya utar naa jaye kahee

Overall Meaning

In the song "Neeyat-E-Shauq" by Asha Bhosle, the lyrics express a deep longing and fear of losing oneself in one's desires. The first line, "Niyate shauk bhar naa jaye kahee," means that the desire within oneself should never be fully fulfilled or extinguished. The singer is expressing the importance of maintaining a sense of passion and ambition in life and not allowing it to fade away.

The next line, "Too bhee dil se utar naa jaye kahee," further emphasizes this idea by suggesting that one should not let their desires consume them to the point of losing touch with their true self. It warns against becoming so immersed in one's desires that they neglect their inner feelings and well-being.

The following lines, "Aaj dekha hai tujhko der ke bad, Aaj kaa din gujar naa jaye kahee," express the realization of seeing the loved one after a long wait and the fear of letting the day pass by too quickly. It highlights the desire to make the most of the present moment and not allow time to slip away.

The lyrics then shift to the fear of becoming detached from others, as expressed in the line, "Naa mila kar udas logo se, Husn teraa bikhar naa jaye kahee." It conveys the fear of losing one's attractiveness and charm by not being able to connect with sad or melancholic people. The singer hopes to maintain their allure and prevent their beauty from dissipating.

Finally, the lines, "Aaraju hai ke too yaha aaye, Aur phir umrr bhar naa jaye kahee, Aao kuchh der ro hee le nasir, Phir yeh dariya utar naa jaye kahee," suggest the desire for a loved one to come and spend some time together. It expresses the fear of missing out on the opportunity to share precious moments together, indicating a longing to shed tears and release emotions before the river (possibly referring to the flow of life or time) takes them away.

Overall, the lyrics of "Neeyat-E-Shauq" touch upon themes of maintaining a balanced approach to desires, cherishing and making the most of the present moment, and the fear of losing connection and missing out on experiences in life.

I read all these comments as if it isa war for the declaration of the better between Asha Bhonsale and Noor Jahan....both exquisite and incomparable with classics no one can replicate. Music is to be enjoyed and the poetry to be cherished. Since they are both highly accomplished singers, anyone trying to make comments of comparison are fooling themselves. What they both have achieved is too large for nobody’s like us to comment!

I am in 80s and have heard Noor Jehan sometime 40 years ago. She was a wonderful singer and now I am hearing Asha. She too is great and many a times better than her sister. Pronunciation is very correct. Greatly talented.
