Singing in euskera (basque language), Berri Txarrak has become one of the best rock bands within the Spanish State's panorama. Their last two albums, called "Libre©" and "Jaio. Musika. Hil" were praised as best 'Spanish' (here meaning produced in Spain, but not in Spanish language) rock/hardcore albums in 2003 and 2005 by such important magazines as Rock Sound (now Rockzone) or Mondosonoro. "Libre©" featured a guest appearence by Rise Against singer Tim Mc Ilrath.
Berri Txarrak love highly emotive, fresh and energetic songs with clever poethic lyrics not refusing to claim against every kind of injustice around and pro freedom of speech and thought. They have already toured through Germany, USA, UK, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Nicaragua, Mexico, Catalunya, Taiwan, Japan...
In late 2007, Berri Txarrak released "Zertarako Amestu" (Dream for what?), a documentary on the band's philosophy, tour-diary and recording process in black and white. The DVD also includes a special live show by the band in Gernika (Basque Country). This documentary won the Best Video of the Year Gaztea Award in 2008.
In 2009, they signed up with the label Roadrunner Records and released they last album, Payola, recorded by Steve Albini at the Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago and featuring Tim McIlrath.
In January 2011, Berri Txarrak was nominated for the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best Punk Song for their song "Folklore."

Kezkak
Berri Txarrak Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
ez eta laguntzarik Afrikara
Armak bai, armak bai zibilizaziotik
lehengai merkearen truke
haurrek irakurtzen ez eta
tiro egiten ikas dezaten
beste ezer baino lehen
beste edozer baino lehen
Kezkak
Herri batzuek
beste herri baten historia ikasten dute
eta herri batzuek
beste herri baten historia idatzi ere bai
Gauez egindako erasoetan
misilek su artifizialak dirudite telebistako pantailan
eta Lizartzako sarreran "herri ilegala" jartzen du
kartel urdinetan
Akordez hesitu ditut nire kezkak
eta erantzunik ez dut,
galderak hamar mila
Kabroi batek egin dezakeen min guztia
Bizi bat daramagu
beste bizi baten bila
The lyrics of Berri Txarrak's song "Kezkak" address several themes, with the recurring concept of "kezkak" or "worries" running throughout. The opening lines suggest that nothing good can come from war or violence, as it doesn't bring any help to Africa and only leads to the exchange of cheap goods for arms. The next lines highlight the importance of education, with the idea that children should be taught to read before they learn to shoot. The chorus repeats the word "kezkak" several times, effectively hammering home the idea that there are many things in the world that cause us to worry.
The second verse touches on the idea of history, with some nations learning from the past mistakes of others, while others perpetuate violence and injustice. The third and final verse touches on more recent conflicts, with the mention of night-time attacks and explosive missiles being viewed on TV screens. The reference to "herri ilegala" or "illegal village" suggests a place where people may be forced to hide due to the violent actions of others.
Overall, the song encourages listeners to be aware of the world around them and to take action where possible to alleviate suffering and promote peace. It touches on themes of education, history, violence, and hope.
