After two demo tapes in 1990 and 1991, the band were picked up by French label Adipocere Records, which made possible the band's first two commercial releases, 1993's Up Through the Linear Shades 7" and 1994's Longing For Scarlet Days EP. In 1995, Beyond Dawn released their critically acclaimed full length debut Pity Love on Candlelight Records. Soon after, the band began work on an album intended to be a departure from the doom metal music they were becoming known for, but their record label was less than pleased with the band's drastic change in sound and they were soon in search of a new label. They eventually signed with Misanthropy Records and released Revelry in 1998 to more critical praise. Beyond Dawn eventually resumed work on the would-be 1996 album and, after adding additional material and overdubs, released In Reverie in 1999 on Eibon Records, which would also be reissued in 2005 with two bonus tracks included. During the latter half of 1999, they released Electric Sulking Machine on the Peaceville label, which soon became a favorite amongst fans and remains sought after due to its limited pressing.
Due in part to the limited commercial success of Frysh, the band went on hiatus in 2003 to focus on other projects. Some time later, several tracks from Frysh were remixed by various electronic and EBM artists and released in the form of the double LP We're Down With Species of Any Kind in 2005. The band remains on an indefinite hiatus.

The posh will be friendly
And I will hardly make a sound as I fall
With guilty eyes and a foolish smile
I'm increasing the gravity
It's not like getting high
Could I just keep quiet for a wonderful minute
The air is full of snow my heart with meaning
Upon the tongue like a taste of electricity almost gone
Everything beautiful it's just a matter of distance
Between the city lights, things have a way of leaving me out
Where in the universe lies the location that I spoke so highly about
It's recommended to lie and change the subject
Every goddamn time and avoid confrontation
I may be strong but not equipped with anything more than a stranger
Would easily remove, I know!
The lyrics of Beyond Dawn's song "Increasing the Gravity" describe a personal struggle with the weight of one's own actions and words. The singer expresses feelings of guilt and foolishness as they fall under the increasing gravity of their own mistakes. They lament that the posh (i.e. people in positions of power or privilege) will be friendly to them, but they feel powerless to make a meaningful impact as they "hardly make a sound" in their descent. The singer acknowledges the transience of beauty and meaning, singing of snowflakes melting on the tongue like a taste of electricity almost gone.
The singer's sense of isolation is palpable in the following lines. They feel left out, perhaps by the distance between themselves and the city lights, or even the wider universe. They question the location they once held in high esteem, pondering whether it was all just a matter of distance. They express a desire to avoid confrontation and change the subject, feeling unequipped to deal with scrutiny. The final line underscores the singer's sense of vulnerability and lack of control - they know that any stranger could easily remove their strength.
Overall, "Increasing the Gravity" is a poignant meditation on the weight of personal responsibility and the fleeting nature of beauty and meaning in our lives. It speaks to a sense of powerlessness and isolation that many people can relate to, and offers no easy solutions or platitudes.
