Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively in character as lead vocalist "Joliet" Jake Blues and harpist/vocalist Elwood Blues, fronted the band, which was composed of well-known and respected musicians. The band made its debut as the musical guest on the April 22, 1978, episode of "Saturday Night Live".
The band then began to take on a life beyond the confines of the television screen, releasing their debut album, "Briefcase Full of Blues", in 1978, and subsequently having a Hollywood film, "The Blues Brothers" (and associated soundtrack album, "The Blues Brothers: Original Soundtrack Recording""), created around its characters in 1980.
1980 also saw the release of their second album "Made in America". It was the last recording the band would make with Belushi's "Jake Blues".
After the death of Belushi in 1982, the "Blues Brothers" have continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members. The original band reformed in 1988 for a world tour and again in 1998 for a sequel to the original film, "Blues Brothers 2000". It makes regular appearances at musical festivals worldwide.

Good time papa gonna poison you
Sprinkle goofer dust all around your bed
Wake up one of these days, find your own self dead
She said you shouldn't say that
I said What did I say to make you mad this time baby?
She said umm
I don't know
She said I don't know but my baby's holding down
The woman I love has got devil in her jaw
Clothes she's wearing made out of the best of cloth
She can take 'em and wash 'em, put 'em upside a wall
She can throw 'em out a window, pick 'em up a little before the fall
Sometimes I think you got your habits on
She said You shouldn't say that
I said What did I say to piss you off this time baby?
She said umm
I don't know, my oh my, I don't know
But my baby's holding down
My momma told me, my momma sat down and cried
She said you're too young to have as many woman as you got
I looked at my mother dear, didn't even crack a smile
Said If woman don't kill me I don't mind dying
The woman I love, I want to wait for last
The woman I love, I have all class
Thought I warned you baby, a long time ago
Better watch your step or I'm going to have to let you go
She said you shouldn't say that
I said baby
You know when you bend over I see every bit of Christmas
And when you bend back I'm looking right into the new year
She said Honey, you know I gave up cigarettes for my new year's resolution
But I didn't give up smoking
I said Woman, you going to walk a mile for a Camel
Or are you going to make like Mr Chesterfield and satisfy?
She said That all depends on what your packing
Regular or king size
Then she pulled out
a bottle of wine and walked to the door
In this song, the singer is expressing his frustration with his partner's behavior. He is sick and tired of the way she treats him and decides to take matters into his own hands by using goofer dust to poison her. The partner responds defensively and denies any wrongdoing, saying "I don't know." The singer then goes on to describe his lover's manipulative and cunning ways, suggesting that she is not to be trusted.
The lyrics use a mixture of blues-driven satire and dark humor to underscore the message, highlighting the tensions that can arise in romantic relationships. The singer's mother serves as a voice of reason, cautioning against the dangers of being involved with too many women, but the singer remains stubborn and defiant, declaring that he will continue to pursue the woman he loves.
Overall, the lyrics of "I Don't Know" offer a nuanced commentary on the complexities of romantic relationships, exploring themes of betrayal, manipulation, and temptation.
