During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

Where's the Girl for Me
Bob Marley & The Wailers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Will flow to the sea
Well yes indeed
Yes indeed
Yeah
But where in this world
Is the girl for me?
Where in this world (Where in this world)
Is the girl for me?
Our fountain
(Will never)
Will never run dry
Will our fountain run dry?
Tell me now
Tell me again
Who put these tears (Who put them here)
In my eyes to cry?
Who put these tears
Who put these tears in my eyes to cry? (Yeah)
Who put these tears
Bless these tears
In my eyes to cry?
Oh yes indeed
I can′t stand it no longer (Tra la la la, Tra-la la la la, Tra)
Seems I'm wasting time (la la la, Fa-la la la la)
Help me Lord (La la la la)
Oh help me Lord (La la la la)
That′s my one and only prayer (Tra la la la, Tra la la la)
I said I (Fa la la, Tra)
Can't stand it no longer (la la la, Tra la la la)
Am I really wasting time? (La-la la la la, La-la la la la)
Help me lord, oh help me lord
Only you know every day I said, every day
The lyrics to Bob Marley & The Wailers' song "Where's the Girl for Me" express a sense of longing and searching for love. The opening lines, "Our river will flow to the sea," suggest the natural course of life, the inevitability of love and connection. However, the repeated question, "Where in this world is the girl for me?" reveals the singer's uncertainty and yearning for a soulmate.
The lyrics continue with the mention of a fountain that will never run dry, symbolizing the eternal wellspring of love within the singer's heart. But despite this abundance, tears fill their eyes, and they question who is responsible for their sorrow. This evokes a sense of heartbreak and disappointment in love.
The repeated plea for help from the Lord reflects the singer's desperation and longing for guidance. They express their inability to endure the loneliness any longer and question if their search for love is in vain. In the end, they surrender to the belief that only the higher power truly knows their heart's desires, making it their sole prayer.
Overall, "Where's the Girl for Me" captures the universal theme of longing and searching for love, while showcasing Bob Marley's emotive and introspective songwriting.
