Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

You've got me in between the devil and the deep blue sea
I forgive you, 'cause I can't forget you
You've got me in between the devil and the deep blue sea
[Repeat: x2]
I ought to cross you off my list
But when you come a-knocking at my door
And I come running back for more
I should hate you, but I guess I love you
You've got me in between the devil and the deep blue sea
You've got me in between the devil and the deep blue sea
The devil and the deep blue sea
In Bobby Darin's song "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea," he sings about a complicated romantic relationship. He doesn't want the person he's singing to, but he also can't bear the thought of losing them. He's caught in a difficult position, feeling as if he's stuck between two very different things - the devil and the deep blue sea.
Despite the fact that this person has hurt him, Darin forgives them because he can't forget them. He tries to tell himself that he should just forget about this person, that he should cross them off his list. But whenever they show up at his door, fate seems to twist his heart, and he feels compelled to come running back for more. Darin knows that he should hate this person, but he can't help but love them - even though they've got him in between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Overall, the song is about the difficult choices we sometimes face in love, and the way that our hearts can struggle to make sense of conflicting emotions. It's a deeply introspective and emotionally honest exploration of the human heart.
