Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

It's not a joke, kid, it's a curse.
My luck is changing, it's gotten from
simply rotten to something worse
Who knows, some day I will win too.
I'll begin to reach my prime.
Now though I see what our end is,
I can't give you anything but love, baby.
That's the only thing I've plenty of,baby.
Dream awhile, scheme awhile
We're sure to find
Happiness and I guess
All those things you've always pined for.
Gee I'd like to see you looking swell, baby.
Diamond bracelets Woolworth doesn't sell, baby.
Till that lucky day you know darned well, baby.
I can't give you anything but love.
Rome wasn't built in a day, kid.
You have to pay, kid, for what you get.
But I am willing to wait, dear,
Your little mate, dear, will not forget.
You have a lifetime before you.
I'll adore you, come what may.
Please don't be blue for the present,
When it's so pleasant to hear you say
I can't give you anything but love, baby.
That's the only thing I've plenty of,baby.
Dream awhile, scheme awhile
We're sure to find
Happiness and I guess
All those things you've always pined for.
Gee I'd like to see you looking swell, baby.
Diamond bracelets Woolworth doesn't sell, baby.
Till that lucky day you know darned well, baby.
I can't give you anything but love.
In Bobby Darin's "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," the singer is expressing their frustration with being broke and unable to provide much for their significant other. They lament the fact that they can't afford expensive gifts like diamond bracelets, and can only offer love in return. They talk about the difficulty of being poor, noting that it's not a joke, but something almost like a curse.
Despite these obstacles, the singer is optimistic and hopeful that things will one day get better. They dream and scheme for the future, imagining a life where they can afford all the things their partner deserves. Until then, they offer love as the only gift they have in abundance, and urge their partner not to be blue in the present.
Overall, the lyrics of "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" speak to the difficulties of being poor and the power of love to sustain us through hard times. Despite the singer's inability to provide material wealth, they still have hope for a happy future with their partner.

Since your gone I can't go on
What will I tell my hurtin' heart
To ease the pain and stop the tears?
I miss you so since we're apart
Since you're gone I can't go on
I tried to tell my foolish pride
Another love will come along
But there's one thing I cannot hide
Since you're gone I can't go on
All night long I walk the floor
Right or wrong, I can't take it any more
My friends may never know, 'cos I'll never show
I play my part so well that they can never tell
Just how I miss you and how I care
How much your love has meant to me
I see you face most everywhere
Since you're gone I can't go on
My friends may never know, 'cos I'll never show it
I play my part so well that they can never tell
Just how I miss you and how I care
How much your love has meant to me
I see you face most everywhere
Since you're gone I can't go on [2x]
