They are best known for their singles "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" in 2002 on Drunk Enough to Dance which was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo" and "1985" (originally written by Mitch Allan of SR-71) in 2004 on A Hangover You Don't Deserve. Speaking with Songfacts about "Girl All The Bad Girls Want" in a 2010 interview, Reddick said: "'Girl All The Bad Guys Want' was my very first co-write ever, and me and Butch Walker sat in a room and literally wrote that song in 30 minutes. I mean, it was done."
The band's name is derived from comedian Steve Martin's "Bowling for Sh*t" routine from his 1978 comedy album, Wild and Crazy Guy, itself a reference to Bowling for Dollars. Jaret Reddick has also stated that at the end of his last performance with his old band one of the members came on stage and proclaimed "Come back next week when we play with our new band... BOWLING FOR SOUP!". This was supposed be to be joke name, but since they couldn't think of anything better the name stuck. Their single '1985' can be found on the UK and the Norwegian editions of Singstar Rocks for the PS2.
They have also became hits on Radio Disney with edits of "1985", "Punk Rock 101", "High School Never Ends", and the inclusion of their version of "I Melt With You" in the Disney movie "Sky High". They have also written and recorded "Today is Gonna Be a Great Day" as the theme song for Disney's "Phineas and Ferb"

Winter Vacation
Bowling for Soup Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Before New Year's and school comes to end it
So the holiday challenge for kids of all nations
Is finding a good way to spend it like maybe
Turning our beds into dual toboggans
And sliding down a ski jump tower
Building a snowman the size of Colossus
Fa, la, la, la
Staging a snowball fight with giant catapults
And snow angels that really fly
Rocking a Christmas carol, wrapping a present
Or just shoveling snow off the drive
Well, they can't all be fun
As you can see there's a whole lot of stuff to do
Before school starts next year
So stick with us 'cause Phineas and Ferb
Are gonna spread some Christmas cheer
So stick with us 'cause Phineas and Ferb
Are gonna spread some Christmas cheer
There are two wondrous weeks for our winter vacation
Before New Year's and school comes to end it
So the holiday challenge for kids of all nations
The lyrics to Bowling for Soup's "Winter Vacation" is a fun and lively song that celebrates the excitement of winter break. The first two lines encapsulate the entire premise of the song: two weeks of winter vacation before the start of a new year and the end of school. The song then goes on to describe various activities that can be done during this two-week break. From sliding down a ski jump tower to building a massive snowman, the song paints images of exhilarating winter adventures. The humorous lyrics also include suggestions such as giving a Yeti a shower and staging a snowball fight with giant catapults. The song then acknowledges that not everything planned will be fun, but the lyrics encourage listeners to stick with it and celebrate the holiday season.
"Winter Vacation" is not only a catchy winter song, but it is also the theme song for the Disney Channel show "Phineas and Ferb" during the holiday season. The song was written and performed by Bowling for Soup specifically for the show. The band's lead singer, Jaret Reddick, stated that the song's upbeat sound and fun lyrics were the perfect fit for the show's tone and energy.
