In the 1980s, Setzer fronted the popular rockabilly band, Stray Cats. Stray Cats caught America's attention with the 1982 album Built for Speed, which included the two Top Ten hits, Rock This Town (#9) and Stray Cat Strut (#3), as well as with the follow-up 1983 album Rant N Rave, which included the two successful singles (She's) Sexy + 17 (#5), and I Won't Stand In Your Way (#35).
In the 1990s, Setzer led a comeback of sorts for swing music and big band music, when he formed Brian Setzer Orchestra. The band has released 5 albums to date and one live DVD. This group had one hit, Jump, Jive, and Wail around the same time songs like the Cherry Poppin' Daddies Zoot Suit Riot had been received favorably in mainstream America.
Brian Setzer also recorded some solo albums during Stray Cats' break in the 1980s along with some in the 1990s. In 2001 he released an album titled Ignition with his band '68 Comeback Special. A new solo album titled Rockabilly Riot Vol. 1: A Tribute To Sun Records was released on July 26, 2005, in the United States.

Peroxide Blonde in a Hopped Up Model Ford
Brian Setzer Lyrics

I was dressed to kill, I was a-lookin' for a fight
I looked in the mirror, just a-waitin' for the light
I saw a hot chick that really looked right
I'm draggin', draggin' down Main once more
With a peroxide blonde in a hopped up model Ford
Yeah, I'm draggin', draggin' down Main once more
Well, I pulled on over, she asked me for a ride
She moved real close, sittin' side-by-side
I looked out the window and to my surprise
Was a hotrod Ford just a-passin' me by
I'm draggin', draggin' down Main once more
With a peroxide blonde in a hopped up model Ford,
Yeah.….
SOLO
Well, we drug down Main, just to make a scene
I barked my tires when the light turned green
I slapped it to the floor, let out on the clutch
And what was left on the road, well - it wasn't very much
We flew out of town, we were side by side
Twin carburetors were open wide
Tires were smoke, it started to whine
I'm tellin' ya, that blonde, she left me way behind!
I'm draggin', draggin' down Main once more
With the peroxide blonde in a hopped up model Ford
Now I'm never-never-never draggin' down Main no more, ooh-ooh…
With a peroxide blonde in a hopped up model Ford,
A peroxide blonde in a hopped up model Ford, ooh-ooh…
A peroxide blonde in a hopped up model Ford
The song "Peroxide Blonde in a Hopped Up Model Ford" by Brian Setzer is a high-energy rockabilly song that captures the excitement and danger of drag racing. The lyrics describe the singer's reckless behavior as he prowls the streets on a Friday night, looking for trouble. He comes across a beautiful woman in a fast car and they engage in a street race, which they ultimately win.
The singer's fascination with the peroxide blonde is apparent throughout the song, and it reflects the larger cultural obsession with the image of the "bombshell blonde." The song is full of classic rockabilly imagery, with references to hotrods, barking tires, and twin carburetors. The singer's driving becomes a metaphor for his own sense of rebellion and freedom, as he tests the limits of his car and himself in a reckless pursuit of excitement.
Overall, "Peroxide Blonde in a Hopped Up Model Ford" is a thrilling and upbeat anthem that celebrates the spirit of rockabilly and the thrill of living life on the edge.
