The lyrics of Koino Code tell a story of a budding romance between two high school students, starting from the beginning of the school year when they meet wearing their new uniforms. The singer is drawn to their classmate, whom they sit next to, and the song portrays the awkwardness and excitement of youthful romance. The two exchange letters during class, which they feel is an inconsequential act, and yet it brings them closer together. Despite their mutual attraction, the singer struggles with their own feelings of jealousy and insecurity as they compare themselves to others, leading to misunderstandings and missed opportunities to confess their feelings. However, the forces of fate seem to be on their side, and in the end, the two are brought closer together by the "code of love" that resonates between them.

I just checked the discussion of others when the novel was announced (which was after this song) and people already assumed it has no basis because the black-haired girl (Tsubomi) was the one that kissed him in the two mvs and therefore, they assumed they ended up together. When I read it though, it was probably the best HW light novel I've read so far. Although you would see that Misaki (short-haired brunette) and Kaname had more moments in the novel and she's most of the time the focus of his POVs, it wasn't as predictable as the other stories regarding the guy's feelings. I still held my breath when the rooftop kiss scene came in as told in Misaki's point of view and what follows next was such a beautiful scene that deserves to be animated more than any non-animated HW medias to date.

After seeing Tsubomi confessing to (and kissing) Kaname, Misaki thought of finally giving up and rushed to their classroom. She found her compilation of notes Kaname always gives her and she cried and regretted not being brave enough to confess. We just get that emotional scene and narration as Misaki shouted "I love you" to no one in the classroom. However, like always, Kaname shows up in the perfect time that surprised Misaki because he heard her. He then explained things to her and hugged her while they were alone in the classroom, saying that he rejected Tsubomi because Misaki was the one in his mind amidst all what happened earlier.
I mean, can you just imagine that being animated? Like Misaki shouting out her feelings the same way Natsuki did for Yuu? Also, that brief silent moment of Misaki being still that Kaname was in front of her and not with Tsubomi like Miou seeing Haruki again after 7 years in the Finale of 10 cm Apart?? Then, Kaname telling her the truth with an instrumental version of Seikai wa Koi ni Ochiteru playing in the background like Re:Hatsuki no Ehon in 10 cm Apart, or The Day I Knew Love during Mochita's confession to Akari? It's gonna be too emotional, beautiful and powerful for me to see that chapter of the novel animated! How come that one of the best Haniwa stories is not part of the main line-up?

I went from team black to team brown lol. At first I just pitied Misaki (brown) here, but I just fell in love with side of the story much more in the novel😭. The first mv leaned more to Tsubomi (which is fair enough and that's why I liked her initially better). However, when it just came down to the novel itself, we just see more of Misaki and Kaname together and whenever it was on Kaname's point of view, most of the entire time, he was thinking of Misaki, the brown one. He even stated himself that he spent more time with her before even realizing his feelings. My point is, no matter who you root for, it's fine and both girls deserve happiness (I even considered multiple times that both girls should just be together instead, lol) it all comes down to Kaname's decision in the end. It's not his fault for falling in love with the girl you didn't root for and it makes sense why he ended up with Misaki if you read the novel regardless of who you ship.
I just love Tsubomi and Misaki's friendship so much! Misaki was willing to give up her feelings just to keep her best friend and Tsubomi always cheered her on in return, both before she realized her feelings and after she confessed. They reflect Futaba and Yuuri in Ao Haru Ride so much, I can't-😭😭 I watched Ao Haru Ride the same time I read this and I'm in love with both stories now.
To be honest, this story feels so much like a what if from the Hatsukoi no Ehon and Solution For Jealousy novels even if it takes in the same universe lol. Kaname is Haruki if he was too dense and oblivious to his and Miou's feelings, and Tsubomi is a representation of what if Mochita was not there to confess and prevent Akari from discovering her little and subconcious feelings for Haruki (check Solution for Jealousy novel, Akari's unrealized feelings were hinted several times there). Ofc, we knew that HaruMiou and MochiAka were endgame, but the Seikaiwa Koi ni Ochiteru novel just took some parts from both previous novels and told a great story of its own y'know? I love this even more because it showed a potential of what could have happened if Mochita didn't confess in Solution for Jealousy, something that made me curious after reading it. I just love it and even though it's obvious in my part that they are building up Misaki and Kaname's story more, you'd still won't be 100% sure the way you are with Haruki's feelings for Miou or Yuu for Natsuki (although Yuu's feelings being a mystery isn't the main point in Confession Rehearsal and HaruMiou's confession scene is a different case). Even so, while reading it before the last two chapters, you're still not gonna be on peace with Kaname which is such a good thing because it increases the hype to who's gonna be endgame!
I'm confidently saying now that this is just as beautiful as the Ima Suki ni Naru love triangle (though because of different reasons). This story was just too beautiful and one of the best that it's sad it's not part of the main line-up (honestly, this should be an anime!!). I just hope Tsubomi finds her Mochita even if he's a little late than Akari's lol. After all, they teased it in the epilouge.
