King's major success began in the 1960s when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists. She has continued writing for other artists since then. King's success as a performer in her own right did not come until the 1970s, when she sang her own songs, accompanying herself on the piano, in a series of albums and concerts. After experiencing commercial disappointment with her debut album Writer, King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years.
King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. Her record sales were estimated at more than 75 million copies worldwide. She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a performer and songwriter. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree.

08. Where You Lead
Carole King Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I only wanna be with you
And I would go
To the ends of the earth
'Cause, darling
To me that's what you're worth
Where you lead, I will follow
If you need, you need me to be with you
I will follow where you lead
If you're out on the road
Feeling lonely, and so cold
All you have to do is call my name
And I'll be there on the next train
Where you lead, I will follow
Anywhere that you tell me to
If you need, you need me to be with you
I will follow where you lead
I always wanted a real home with flowers on the window sill
But if you wanna live in New York City, honey, you know I will
(Yes I will, yes I will)
I never thought I could get satisfaction from just one man
But if anyone can keep me happy, you're the one who can
Where you lead, I will follow
Anywhere that you tell me to
If you need, you need me to be with you
I will follow, oh
Where you lead, I will follow
Any-anywhere that you tell me to
If you need, you need me to be with you
I will follow where you lead
Oh baby, ooh
I'm gonna follow where you lead
(I'm gonna follow where you lead)
Oh baby, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna follow where you lead
(I'm gonna follow where you lead)
Ooh, sugar, uh-huh
I'm gonna follow where you lead
(I'm gonna follow where you lead)
Oh baby, yeah
I'm gonna follow where you lead
(I'm gonna follow where you lead)
In Carole King's song "Where You Lead", the lyrics express the unconditional love and devotion the singer has towards their partner. The singer wants to be with their partner at all costs and is willing to follow them anywhere they may go. The singer mentions that they would go to the "ends of the earth" for their partner because they believe that their partner's love is worth it. The chorus repeats the phrase "Where you lead, I will follow" which signifies the singer's commitment to their relationship.
The second verse of the song highlights the singer's willingness to sacrifice their own desires for their partner. The singer wants a home with flowers on the window sill, but if their partner wants to live in New York City, they will follow them there. The singer also reveals that they never thought they would find satisfaction from just one person but they believe that their partner is the only one who can make them happy.
