Catalepsy was founded in 2004. Rob Walden is the only founding member still with the band. In 2008, the band finished a tour with Hatebreed for their Live Dominance DVD release. They completed their first studio album, Iniquity, in January 2008. The album was released on May 13, 2008. In early 2008, the band recorded a music video for their song "Trust". It premiered on MTV's Headbangers Ball. In late 2008, Drew Carothers left the band due to personal issues. He was replaced with Josh Anderson of the Florida band Iamdivide. The band continued to tour, with such bands as After the Burial, Oceano, Too Pure to Die, Waking the Cadaver, Rose Funeral and many others.
In October 2010, during the recording of Bleed, Josh Anderson left the band. He was replaced by Rick Norman, formerly of the band In The Ruins, also a past member of Catalepsy. On December 3, 2010, the band released the first single from Bleed called "Infernal". Immolate
Catalepsy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everything close to you
My life's not a game
So live yours, but never f*****g judge me
How will you stand
Without
Ground beneath you.
Coming back to save you.
And will you stand.
When all the days have ended.
Give up hope. There'll be no salvation.
I will not bow and worship any god.
That can't be seen
The base of any religion
Proved fiction.
We won't back down
You can't save us
We don't need a second chance.
Pray god saves me
First you say that we have nothing without him
And still you stay spreading your f*****g lies.
I cannot be convinced
To worship a lie, your f*****g lies
Once I prayed to your god to save me.
My empty words
Fallen on deaf ears
Once I prayed to your god to save me
I will not bow down to your religion
When you god is proven fiction x4
In Catalepsy's song "Immolate," the lyrics express a sense of defiance and refusal to accept traditional religious beliefs. The verse "I will destroy. Everything close to you" could be interpreted as an admission of anger and frustration towards those who have tried to impose religious beliefs on the singer. The following verse, "My life's not a game, So live yours, but never f*****g judge me" emphasizes the importance of individuality and choice, suggesting that the singer is not willing to allow others to dictate their beliefs or actions.
The chorus of the song is more confrontational, daring those who practice religion to question their beliefs and abandon what the singer sees as false idols. The lyrics "'I will not bow and worship any god. That can't be seen" and "We won't back down, You can't save us" are clear statements of defiance and rejection of traditional religion. The final line, "When your god is proven fiction" is perhaps the most powerful statement in the song, declaring that the singer does not and will not believe in a made-up deity.
Overall, "Immolate" is a strong denouncement of organized religion and an endorsement of individuality and choice. The song expresses a sense of defiance and anger towards traditional belief systems, and urges listeners to question the validity of the institutions and leaders who try to control them.
