Catalepsy was founded in 2004. Rob Walden is the only founding member still with the band. In 2008, the band finished a tour with Hatebreed for their Live Dominance DVD release. They completed their first studio album, Iniquity, in January 2008. The album was released on May 13, 2008. In early 2008, the band recorded a music video for their song "Trust". It premiered on MTV's Headbangers Ball. In late 2008, Drew Carothers left the band due to personal issues. He was replaced with Josh Anderson of the Florida band Iamdivide. The band continued to tour, with such bands as After the Burial, Oceano, Too Pure to Die, Waking the Cadaver, Rose Funeral and many others.
In October 2010, during the recording of Bleed, Josh Anderson left the band. He was replaced by Rick Norman, formerly of the band In The Ruins, also a past member of Catalepsy. On December 3, 2010, the band released the first single from Bleed called "Infernal". Catalepsy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There is no turning back
Can you see what you have done?
I seek vengeance
For your blood
I polt vengeance for blood X2
I see broken dreams threw shards of glass X4
For what you've taken from me
I hope burn alive for all your
Fucking lies
I can not be accounted for
The way that you I deal with lies
My thought of your forgiveness is you buried alive
All your hopes and dreams broken shattered by glass X2
Shattered by glass
The opening lines of "11:16" by Catalepsy speaks of a deep-seated desire for revenge against someone who has wronged the singer in a profound way. The imagery of the person choking in their dream as the singer drives them to their fate is haunting and underscores the level of anger and hatred that the singer feels towards the offender. The repeated line, "I seek vengeance for your blood," adds to the feeling of impending violence.
The chorus of the song takes a slightly different turn with the metaphor of shattered dreams being depicted through shards of glass. The singer's promise to make the offender beg for forgiveness is unsettling, and their wish that they burn alive seems to suggest that the offense was of a severe nature. The final line of the chorus, "I hope burn alive for all your fucking lies," leaves little doubt about the depth of feeling that the singer has towards the person who has wronged them.
Overall, "11:16" paints a picture of seething anger and the desire for retribution against someone who has caused profound pain, with a chilling verse and an equally unnerving chorus.
