Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.
Wishing Well
Converge Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The stars are less bright tonight
The future is moving farther away
From defeated eyes
Your words can't touch me
While your past ways down your life
Your heart can't love me
While your past (still) haunts you inside
The past still follows you
You, all I had I gave to you
(We are echoes in the well)
In these lyrics, Converge seems to be describing a relationship that has ended due to one person's inability to move on from their past. The first two lines set a dark and somber tone, with the imagery of collapsing veins and less bright stars. The singer is looking towards the future, but it seems to be moving away from them, and they are seeing it through "defeated eyes."
The next few lines seem to address the other person directly, saying that their words and their heart can't touch or love the singer as long as their past continues to weigh them down. The repetition of "the past still haunts you" and "the past still follows you" emphasize the idea that the past is an ever-present force in this person's life, and it's preventing them from being able to fully move on or love someone else.
The final line - "You, all I had I gave to you" - is a poignant and somewhat bitter statement. It implies that the relationship was one-sided, with the singer giving everything they had to the other person, only to have it ultimately fall apart because of their inability to let go of the past. The line "We are echoes in the well" could be interpreted a few different ways, but it seems to suggest that their relationship is now just a distant memory, like a fleeting echo that fades away into nothingness.

Serpico's Beard
My favourite song from this album, it has a real crossover hardcore thrash vibe.
