Blue Condition
Cream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't take the wrong direction passing through
Instead of deep reflection of what's true,
For it's a combination of judgments made by you
That causes a deep dejection all the way through.

No relaxation, no conversation, no variation
In a very dark blue, blue condition.
Early rising every day.
You must be enterprising in your way,
For you will hear no laughter, nor see the sun;
Life would be one disaster all the way through.

No relaxation, no conversation, no variation
In a very dark blue, blue condition.

Don't take the wrong direction passing through
Instead of deep reflection of what's true,
For it's a combination of judgments made by you
That cause a deep dejection all the way through.

No relaxation, no conversation, no variation
In a very dark blue, blue condition.

No relaxation, no conversation, no variation
In a very dark blue, blue condition.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cream's song Blue Condition are a warning about the dangers of making hasty decisions without taking the time to reflect on what is truly important in life. The opening lines caution the listener against taking the wrong path without due consideration, as it is the combination of all these choices that ultimately lead one to a state of deep sadness and disappointment. The verses then go on to describe how a life without joy, laughter, or sunlight can be a never-ending cycle of misery.

The repetitive chorus serves to underscore the sense of suffocating monotony that comes with being trapped in a dark blue condition, where there is no relief from the relentless gloom. The bleakness of the lyrics are further emphasized by the fact that there is no variation, relaxation or conversation - all vital components of a happy and fulfilling life.

The song is a poignant reminder that in order to avoid the pitfalls of a life devoid of joy and meaning, we must continually reflect on our choices, and make conscious decisions that steer us towards a path of peace and happiness.

Disraeli Gears is definitely one of the best albums of the 60s. 1967 was a superb year for music.

It was also the first Cream album to use Fuzz Pedals and Wah-Wah Pedals according to Eric Clapton in his Autobiography.

Surprisingly soft and gentle vocals for Ginger Baker. Great song

@johnwoa

Great memories of this song when I was a teen.  I remember being over at a friend's house one night and we had this song playing in the background while we were watching an old B/W movie clip of Bela Lugosi ("Count Dracula") slowly walking along the fog-shrouded sidewalk of the streets of London.  This song seemed to fit that scene perfectly.  Never forgot that night.  Have always loved this song!

johnwoa I just graduated high school a year ago and I completely relate to your comment. I was in a band with some close friends, ginger baker was an inspiration to me, played house parties and overall had a great time. I'm living on my own now, bills fucking suck and I wish I could do those things again. This song takes me back, Great times...
