Cri-Cri is known as the "grillito cantor" or "the singing cricket". He is a character created by Francisco Gabilondo Soler in his childhood and may even be considered "his inner personality"
The character became so famous and gave its author such renown, that it became a second name for Gabilondo. In the mid part of the 20th century he became the most recognizable singer of children's songs in Spanish. Gabilondo's dedication to this segment of the population has been greatly admired, comparable to Walt Disney in his honest approach to making life fun for those who are getting started in life.
La Sirenita
Cri-Cri Lyrics

en su barca marinera
junto a las rocas
que baña el mar
oyó una voz cantar ...
y remando se acercó
donde rompe la escollera,
con ansias locas
la dulce voz aquella.
Cuando tiró
la malla de sus redes
pescó a la sirenita
de los reflejos verdes.
El pescador
la vió con luz de luna,
y al quererla tocar,
para escapar de él
se convirtió en espuma.
Desde entonces cada vez
que la luna es luna llena
en su barquilla
va el pescador
buscando un rumor ...
pero el único cantar
nunca es de la sirena,
sino de olas
al reventar allá,
en la mar serena.
Bajo de él,
en las profundidades,
jugaba la sirena
con perlas y corales,
en libertad
muy lejos de su alcance;
sin salir nunca más
porque la ley del mar
no sabe de romance.
The lyrics of "La Sirenita" tell the story of a fisherman who, while sailing along the rocky shores, heard a beautiful voice and was drawn to it. He became so desperate to capture the voice that he cast his net, only to discover that he had caught a mermaid with green scales. However, when he tried to touch her, she disappeared into the foam and returned to the sea. The fisherman was left with only the memory of her voice. Since that fateful encounter, he has searched for her every full moon, hoping to hear her singing once again. Sadly, all he hears are the waves crashing against the shore, and the mermaid remains free, playing with pearls and coral in the depths of the ocean.
The lyrics of the song contain a message about the power of nature and the consequences of trying to possess something that is not meant to be yours. The fisherman's desire to catch the mermaid and claim her as his own leads to disappointment and frustration. In the end, he realizes that the mermaid is meant to be free, and he can only appreciate her ethereal beauty from afar.
