When we were together
Imagine my surprise
When You Told Me It Was Over
Threw your coat over your shoulder
And walked out of my life
You said that it was just infatuation
Something I'd get over soon enough
But it hurts like love
And it feels like heartache
You were here in my arms
Then you were gone
And now it's just too late
It's a crying shame
After all of this pain
I'm still not sure just what it was
But it hurts like love
I don't know how it happened
I gave it all my passion
Believing it was real
I was sure that it could save you
But all it ever gave you
Was this emptiness I feel
I know that it's only an illusion
But every night that I don't feel your touch
But it hurts like love
And it feels like heartache
You were here in my arms
Then you were gone
And now it's just too late
It's a crying shame
After all of this pain
I'm still not sure just what it was
But it hurts like love
I'm still not sure just what it was
But it hurts like love
The lyrics to D. Tucker's "Love It Hate It" describe the aftermath of a breakup. The singer is grappling with the pain of losing someone they thought was their true love. The first verse talks about the shock of the breakup - the singer thought they were going to be together forever, but their partner suddenly ended things. They throw their coat over their shoulder and walk out of the singer's life, leaving them to process the pain of the breakup. The partner tries to console the singer by saying it was just infatuation and that they would get over it, but the singer knows that the pain they are feeling is real and resembles love.
The second verse describes the singer's attempts to salvage the relationship. They gave it their all, believing it to be real, but ultimately it only left them feeling empty. They know that what they had was just an illusion, but they still yearn for their partner's touch. The chorus repeats the idea that the pain of the breakup feels like love and heartache, even though the partner said it was just infatuation.
Overall, the lyrics of "Love It Hate It" capture the feelings of heartbreak and confusion that can follow a breakup. The singer is struggling to make sense of their emotions and to come to terms with the loss of someone they loved.
