Give Me Everything
David Guetta Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You've got to give me somethin'
Deep in my heart
You see your injection
To my direction
It's coming strong
But not for long
But what you want, here, it's not for show
Though you're looking good and smelling hot
It's not enough to feel the power
So if you want what I got
You've got to give me somethin'
That hits us for
Deep in my heart we both know that it's true
The lyrics to David Guetta feat. Barbara Tucker's song Give Me Something speak to the idea that in order to receive something from someone, you must first give something in return. The opening lines "Give me somethin', you've got to give me somethin', deep in my heart" communicate a desire for reciprocation from the singer's love interest. The line "You see your injection to my direction, it's coming strong but not for long" suggest that the person in question is making an effort to win over the singer's affection, but their attempts are not enough on their own.
The next lines "I got the power to let you know, but what you want, here, it's not for show" imply that the singer has the ability to show affection in return, but the other person needs to put in more effort than just looking and smelling attractive. The chorus ("So if you want what I got, you've got to give me somethin') reiterates the central message of the song, that in order to receive love, attention, or affection from someone, you must be willing to give something in return.
Overall, the lyrics to Give Me Something are a call for more mutual effort and reciprocity in romantic relationships. The message is a simple but important one for anyone seeking meaningful connections with others.
