In the song L'écrivaine by Dumas, the singer confesses to having a secret love affair with a writer. He says that he becomes dyslexic when she calls him and mixes up words of love with erotic terms. He finds her writing so captivating that it pricks him deeply. Despite his admiration for her, he fears giving in to her seduction and compromising his integrity.
The refrain of the song "Moi je préfère être trois fois X, Rêvant à sa peau de deux fois B, Même s'il fallait que je consulte les deux fois A" translates to "I prefer to be three times X, Dreaming of her skin of two times B, Even if I had to consult two times A." This is a reference to the French film classification system, which rates movies according to age and appropriateness. The rating "X" is equivalent to the American "NC-17" rating and is restricted to persons over 18 years of age. The singer is saying that he would rather fantasize about his lover than to act on his impulses.
The song also highlights the beauty and allure of writers, especially when they are in their element - writing. The singer paints a picture of a writer with "circles under her eyes" and "scars of words" but still beautiful in her own right. The song implies that there is something magnetic about writers and the power of their words. Ultimately, the singer acknowledges that words are not enough and one must anchor oneself in the real world without remorse or regret.
