The lyrics of Ebi's song "Gharibeh" describe the singer's feeling of isolation and loneliness, not knowing who they are or where they belong. The word "gharibeh" translates to "stranger" or "foreigner," emphasizing the theme of not fitting in. The opening line asks, "I don't know who you are, stranger. You broke my silence." This suggests that the singer has found someone who has entered their life and shattered their solitude. However, the second line is contradictory, stating that the stranger has "broken" their silence, suggesting that their presence has only made them feel more alone.
The chorus repeats the lines describing the singer's garden of silence, where the stranger has come to rest on different branches. The stranger seems to have an impact on the singer's emotional state, as they dance and sing away the singer's pain. The second verse expands on the singer's feeling of worthlessness and depression. The line "From the pain in my heart, I bled. You sang to me and laughed." suggests that the stranger has helped the singer find some joy and release from their sorrow. The final lines suggest that the singer's heart is always singing Ebi's music.
Overall, "Gharibeh" expresses the feeling of isolation and loneliness, but also suggests that there is a kind of solace to be found in music and the unexpected connections that can be made with others.
