Don't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven?
You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the town
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you must have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
Every time, every time it rains, it's gonna rain pennies from heaven
Don't you know every cloud contains lots of pennies from heaven
You'll find your fortune's fallin', baby, all over the town
Be sure, be sure that your umbrella is upside down
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you've got to have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me
The lyrics of Eddie Fisher's song "Pennies From Heaven" convey a message of hope, optimism, and the idea that positive outcomes can come from unexpected places. The opening lines, "Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven, Don't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven?" suggest that even in the midst of challenging times, there is always a silver lining or a chance for good fortune to come our way.
The notion that "You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the town, Be sure that your umbrella is upside down" further emphasizes the idea that opportunities can come to us from unexpected directions. It encourages us to be open and receptive to the possibilities that life presents, so that we can catch those "pennies from heaven" and benefit from them.
The lyrics also suggest that to obtain the things we love – represented metaphorically as a "package of sunshine and flowers" – we must be willing to endure some difficult moments or setbacks, symbolized by the need for rain showers. This implies that sometimes we need to face challenges and overcome hardships in order to achieve what truly matters to us.
Lastly, the line "So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree, There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me" urges us not to shy away from adversity or seek shelter in safe but stagnant places. Instead, it encourages us to face the storms head-on, because amidst the thunderous chaos, there are opportunities waiting for us, just like pennies falling from the sky.
Overall, these lyrics serve to remind us to maintain a positive outlook, embrace the unexpected, and recognize that even in difficult times, there is always a chance for good fortune and happiness to come our way.
