The band began as an after-church endeavor when the DuPrees were young. The band was named Moss Eisley, after the Star Wars city Mos Eisley, but for legal reasons the "Moss" was dropped officially when they announced their tour opening for Coldplay. Now they're all grown up and have both headlined and opened for bands such as (but not limited to): Taking Back Sunday, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Snow Patrol, Brand New, Vedera, MUTEMATH, The Myriad, Hot Hot Heat and New Found Glory, and Say Anything, in which Sherri DuPree married lead singer Max Bemis. Featuring ethereal, soaring harmonies and dreamy imagery, Eisley has a sound all their own. They are, however, not without comparison or influence. Their sound echoes to dream pop and artists such as Cocteau Twins or Mazzy Star and to contemporary acts such as Denali.
Lights Out

Away with you
Away with sight
And all its darkness
Well find a shell
We'll crawl inside
Bodies make homes
No one can take that away
No
Lights out
I'm on your feathers
Wings out
I'm a bird, I'm a bird
Mountain tops
Make me feel better
When we're aloft
Boat at sea
See it float
We drown if there's no hope
Take my hand, lets step outside
See? We are still home
Awake from your sleep
Awake from your slumber
The song 'Lights Out' by Eisley is a introspective and dreamlike song about finding comfort in the company of someone special in a seemingly dark world. The chorus constitutes the main theme of the song, with the singer expressing the desire to be lifted away from the troubles of the world to a place that is safe and comforting. The first verse shows the singer's willingness to abandon sight and all that it represents, perhaps indicating a disconnect from reality. The following lines express a desire to find a shell and crawl inside it with someone, and to create a home where no one can take it away. The chorus then follows, further emphasizing the desire to be lifted away from the world and experience freedom, like a bird soaring above the mountain tops.
The second verse presents the idea of a boat on the sea, with the potential for drowning if there is no hope. The singer then implores their partner to take their hand, to venture outside, and to realize that they are still at home in each other's company. The final lines of the song serve as a wake-up call, encouraging the listener to let go of their slumber and experience the beauty of the world around them.

Away with me
Let's leave this place together
Away with you
Let's go to a place where it's just you and I
Away with sight
Let's go somewhere where there's no distractions
And all its darkness
And where we won't be affected by any negativity
We'll find a shell
We'll find a place to hide
We'll crawl inside
We'll hide ourselves from the outside world
Bodies make homes
We're all we need to feel safe
And no one can take that away
No one can take away the comfort we give each other
No one can take that away
No one can take away the peace and security we feel
Lights out
We don't need the lights on to feel safe
I'm on your feathers
I trust you to protect me
Wings out
We'll fly together
I'm a bird, I'm a bird
We're free to go anywhere we want
Mountain tops
The view from the top is worth the climb
Make me feel better
It makes us forget about our problems
When we're aloft
When we're up there together
Boat at sea
Life can be unpredictable
See it float
But we're strong enough to weather the storm
We drown if there's no hope
As long as we have hope, we can survive anything
Take my hand, lets step outside
Let's face the world together
See? We are still home
As long as we have each other, we'll always have a place to call home
Awake from your sleep
Wake up and see what's around you
Awake from your slumber
Don't sleep through your life
